Anyone been on a course at Elvington near York with Driver Skills UK ?
Thinking of a half day skid pan plus half day performance driving in my GTI:

Someone mentioned CarLimits (Essex) recently but that is a bit far from Doncaster and I'm interested in the skid pan bit which they don't seem to offer.
Also remember someone else mentioning Drivetrain but that was all on public roads with an ex Police instructor(maybe later).
Any experiences / thoughts that anyone would like to share ?

....I've done both CarLimits (probably me who recommended it here) and Drivetrain which is on public roads in Oxfordshire. Both excellent in my opinion and I now apply most of what I learnt on Drivetrain naturally but there are still bits I have to remind myself to do sometimes.
I don't know anyone up in your neck of the woods.

When I thought about it, it seemed more sensible to do some of the basics on a track / airfield first,
rather than go straight on to a course on public roads.
I know I'm cautious (my dad was a safety manager !) - but after 31 years driving without an accident, I don't want my first one to write off 25 grands worth of motor that has taken several years to save for.
Anyhow, good to know that some of us old dogs know that we can still be taught new tricks.
Has no one else on this forum been on any of these training days in the last few years ?

....That's exactly what my thoughts were - I was finding that the GTI was sticking so well on bends I didn't want to find out where the limit was the hard way! So I did the airfield day first and then Drivetrain a few months later. Now I know where 'the edge' is and the limits, I can recognise the signs and stay away from it. We never stop learning :smiley:

york looks good , full day track day £200 not bad , and you get full instructor time thats pretty good!

Oooh that sounds quite good... might have to get myself one of those for christmas!! Not too far from York either. Do you have to tell you insurance company?? Do they have cars for you to use or is it bring your own??
Note to self: Book a day when its snowing :grin:

....Always better to use your own car for driver training - I can't see much point otherwise.

At the Elvington venue, they require you to use one of their Focus cars for the skid pan session,
for the rest you can use your own car.

Definately going for some driver training myself; especially convinced after the what RedRobin had to say. Only problem is, i live near Cannock, so oxford and york seem a bit too much of a mission at the moment. Might be a silly question but anyone know a place in th midlands? :undecided:

Yeah! I think they call it the A45 or broadstreet is always good on a nice quiet night about 1am :grin:
