My friend who has an Edition 30 exactly like mine told me he got beaten by a Honda CTR - old shape - when he was driving on the autobahn. :embarassed: :embarassed: The Ed30 pulled away slowly upto 125mph but then let the CTR catch up. But what got him was the ease and speed at which the CTR passed him at 140mph. He didn't really want to go faster than that as it was dark and the road - ahem Autobahn - was narrow in places sort of like an English dual carriageway A road. None-the-less, my friend was surprised that he didn't lose the CTR in the first place.
-
Time for an APR remap for your "friend"

Thats what I've been saying to him too... his nickname is 'Fast' by the way, he's quite short and appears to have red eyes  - probably due to driving too much.
-
From what he told me though, I reckon for the CTR to have that much extra pace at 140mph must have been tuned or something...

CTR's can be tuned with engine mods and exhaust at around 230bhp. If you supercharge them they can go in excess of 300bhp
The Ariel Atom has a supercharged CTR engine and puts out 300bhp.
-
"Cough - Cough" ----------must have been tuned
-
im surprised by reading this. I absolutely anilalated one a few months ago. Wasnt going quite as fast as 'your friend' but it didnt seem to stand a chance
-
3 WORDS??
GET AN R32
And then put a supercharger on it
-
CTR's are fast. My mates is 230BHP and i love launch mode. Wish my GTI had it :embarassed:
-
must have been tuned the ctr

Yeah but the only problem then would be having to slow down as I'd only get 10 miles to a full tank
-
yeah mustve been tuned , the torque curve on the ED30 should annilate it
I think your 'friend' should get a remap anyway , as not remapping a ED30 is a waste
-

Thats what I thought. I know the CTR's are quick, but I thought the superior bhp and torque of the Ed30 would show themselves at that speed - not that I've ever driven at that frightening speed... that would be insane :lipsrsealed:
-
On a trip to Germany when I had my CTR, I struggled to get my standard car over an indicated 150 so in reality I was probably doing 140. They are tricky cars to extract any decent power out of unless you supercharge/turbo them. Once thats done though I wouldn't count on catching one.

Thats what I was thinking - he said the CTR's surge in power at that speed reminded him of an M5 he had once taken on in his standard Mk5 GTI from 30-60mph but then it was bye-bye GTI...

Yeah.. that sounds fair  he shoulda pressed the loud pedal all the way

i nearly fell of my seat reading this , i had a 53 CTR and no way would it live with a standard GTI above 100, let alone Ed30, the car has no torque, 0-60 it would murder it, but on the motorways it was crap, if you wanted to blast past anything say doing 80, you had to drop to 4th otherwise you would look like my mum trying to overtake a tractor  come on, come on, keep going!

No problem in the R32

I remember toying with a ctr a few months ago in my previous Focus ST on the E42 to Liege, My focus was running about 290hp and the civic must have been std. He caught upto me and I stayed in 6th but put my foot down and basically left him(very quickly) I then let him catch up again and proceeded to leave him again I think he got abit pee'd off so I just left my foot to the floor at just over 155.

My mate with a car pretty identical to mine did a good job in mincing his mates 06 plate Civic Type R.
As mentioned already though, that one your mate had a tussle with on the Autobahn (PMSL) was most likely tuned, probably charged if it was pulling hard at 140mph. Remember though they weigh less than an Ed30 to the tune of at least 100kg and with a uni-chip, filter, full exhaust, they can make 230bhp and even then they are quick.
-
My old 04 CTR had 220+, there is no way on earth it could keep up with an ed30
Would have to have been massively moded
-
I had a 54 plate type r and on a dry day would easily stick with a gti up to 130,i think 0-100 type r is 16.5s,this is where the type r is quick caining it from standstill to 130 mph after that it starts slowing up, the one your freind raced must have had the supercharger upgrade giving it up to 300bhp.

how funny, i had a race yesterday with my friend in his ctr. from stand still i left him, got onto a long straight "private" road doing about 30 and we both gunned it.............bye bye ctr. last i saw of him he was rappidly dissapering in my mirror.

Glad to hear it!! I have a so called mate that has been saying he leaves R32's standing all day long! Have not yet had the chance to meet him on the road yet... but rest assured he will be eating dust. Even more so if its wet!

I dont think I can make the first 3wks of April as staff have booked holidays... which means I am working pretty much flat out for that period. I am then on holiday for a week at the end of May... So its going to be tough!! I would like to go the track near York for some race driver training. You can take your own car and be shown exactly how you should be driving. So if anyone is up for that??

jeeeze u make me laugh   dont think il be up for that but you would be more than welcome to join us all at awesome, then you could show us what a 'real' car can put out :smug:

R32 - I just booked myself a day at the York track - 1/2 day skid pan followed by half day on the track in the GTI. Early birthday pressie - March 27th - so probably too early for you ?
All I've got to do now is break the news to swmbo when she gets back - car's in her name after all...
-
Have you got anymore details regarding these track training sessions with your own car, I'm really interested

Just going to get back on the net and have a look! I had looked at one of the half day courses also but as I was unable to drive for a month I kind of didnt follow it up. But yes this is something i would be interested in  So every one near Leeds or the North East should get together and maybe do a full track day
joe - Im not too sure there is much point in getting a RR for a standard car. I would have thought this is more for people who have carried out mods. I find more fun in driving and the skill of it rather than paper based comparisons... after all the RR is never going to tell you your pants at driving! Lack of skill will loose you alot more than 30bhp can make up on the road :smug:
-
Hmm, quite fancy a trackday myself
-
See http://www.driverskills.com/
Its not a track day as in racing, more of a tuition day on how to get the most from your car in a relatively safe enviroment - hopefully...

Yeah! Thats the one i seen. Sounds like it could be a good meet if we all get down there.. im sure we can all compare times and stuff afterwards if need be.

i fancy it, i'll have a good look later
