Hi all,
i need to get to the bottom of this problem cause i cant keep riding my scooter in this weather (getting bloody cold now ).
The fuel filler neck has perished on my j reg (92 carb model) clipper and the new part i just got from Euro Car Parts is about a`foot too long. I dont wanna chop it up because there is a rib at the end where the rubber hose slips over to form ( i think) a seal. They`ve told me thats all they got.
Can some1 point me in the right direction cause if i gotta talk with these guys again at ECP the with big nose is gonna be wear it.
cheers
-
check with ecp if theres nother option1 but tbh cut it if need be. its no that fuel is ever gona be that high in system
-
sound like youve got the mk1 tin top filler neck which is about a foot longer if i remember correctly
-
Well it is a foot longer, i`m gonna cut to fit cause it`s the right shape. I`l wait a couple of days and watch this post jus in case some1 got some strong views against it.
-
I replaced my filler neck on my old cab and I got mine from ECP. IIRC, the tintop is smaller than the cab and is a heck of a lot cheaper. You can use the tintop one with some extra pipe and a clip to make it fit apparently. Mine from ECP was about £96+VAT but the tintop one was about £30+VAT. A foot longer seems quite a lot though. Are you sure they've actually given you the correct part ?
-
They seem adament that the part i got is the right one and even supplied an extra bit of of rubber pipe with it. Both parts cost about £42 so i can see where ur comming from dude. What do you think about cuttin the pipe to fit? I`l lose the rib at the end tho
-
It has and can be done as Gibby says...
Iv'e never actually seen what one looks like to comment..so if you do do it, bang some pics up as mine needs doing!
Dinx
-
When mine was changed I think I got the genuine Cabrio part.
If you haven't gone ahead and put it on yet do you want me to try and dig out the paperwork with the part no. and stuff on?
-
that would be sweet
i`ve got my head around the job in hand, (cutting metal, trimming rubber  )
But on the other hand if a puker one anit as much as gibby says then wots the point in gettin stressed.
Not holding my breath tho
-
I didn't have any extra bits when I got mine, just a straight forward one piece filler neck as far as I can remember. Try ringing another ECP somewhere else and see if they give you the same part number.
-
mine was replaced with a single unit, i will get you the part number when i return home tonight as i have the receipt for the part.
it went straight on apparently according to the fitters notes with the receipt!!!!????
-
from what i understand the cabby/tintop pipes are a close fit, it goes in with some slight bending and worst thing about it is the cap sits at a slightly different angle?
I have a tintop one for my cabby, i cant compare it to the old cabby pipe because it had rusted so bad the neck was in half
-
Ordered what is supposed to be the right part from GSF at a mear £104 () to arrive tomorro.
Hopefully it`s gonna fit like a glove, the nice chap there says he`s been down this road before and no`s what he`s talkin about.
We`l see tomorro
-
Sounds more like the price I paid so I'd say that's the right part.
So did they sell you the wrong part then ?
-
Glad you got it sorted.
Expensive but worth it. Rust in the tank and eventually in the carb is worth avoiding at any price. Trust me, I speak from bitter experience.
-
They did sell me the wrong part, and they were adament they neck they supplied to me was correct. What pissed me off was that he, or any other nob that i spoke to just did`nt wanna listen to what i was saying. Dont you jus hate that attitude. The 1st time i delt with these guys was when they 1st opened up in Cardiff. They could`nt do enough for u. But now they more estabished they dont seem that intrested anymore.
Lets see wot tomorro brings, picking up the right part i hope.

ive got the bit you want with a brand new sports locking cap on it ive put it in golf bits for sale
-
had exaclty this problem
you need the more expensive one
no way round it

i had the tank and filler pipe changed about 2 years ago.
yep they will say you got the right one but you dont.....
