Title: New to the forum and a long way away..
Post by: polarGti on 24 November 2007, 03:49
Afternoon/night/morning everyone. I'm one of what appears to be a growing band of newbies on here. Found you by searching for MK4 Golf stuff.

Just bought my wife a Christmas present as she has been in hospital and didn't think she was going to make it to the New Year! So in a moment of weakness (How cool am I ladies?) I went out and within 24hrs had the new car bought and delivered.

It's a black 2002 GTI 1.8 T with what equates to 50,300 miles on the clock. One owner and in lovely condition.

So, after waiting 24 years to get the fabled GTI what have I let myself (sorry herself - because it's hers after all ) in for?

I've read (since I had it delivered) so many awful web comments on the Golf that at one point I seriously considered sending it back!!

But there must be good and bad in every camp I guess? As since then I've read so many great reviews and reports from owners.

I have a great mate in Lincs who has had seven and never had a fault.

Now - Cambelts? Over here in the Southern Hemisphere every motorist appears to be ripped off due to the Km service intervals..Tell me folks, am I thick or what but if a car can do 10 or 15 thousand miles in Britain and Europe before needing a service why can it only do 6 or 9 thousand miles (equivalent) - the same applies with camblelts - my, damn it, sorry the wifes new car has done 89,000km and apparently needs a belt or two very soon - and yet in the UK this would equate to 128,000 kms?

I'm confused, but then I am a Leo.

So there you go team I'm the new member with some issues BUT my (oops there I go again) the wifes new car appears to be great fun - it goes well having 180bhp on tap and yet seems to be pretty good on fuel too and here is the real laugh for all my UK friends:

Guess how much our car costs to insure? Fully Comp - ANY named driver (yes my 17 yr old son can drive it - although I have incorporated a retina scan security system..) and anyone over 25 can drive it too with a 125 pound excess.

How much???? One Hundred and sixty pounds.

Right must close as it's almost tea time, 25 degrees and sat in shorts. And it's November.

Bye for now Team.

Welcome

You may be better posting in the MKIV section as not many tend to venture out this way.

I have had a couple of MKIV's myself and enjoyed them both. Neither had any faults to speak of. Enjoy!
