cheers

according to the golf instruction manual it says 8 seconds... but thats as long as ive read the right bit
-
woah thats a lot quicker than i expected can anyone confirm this google is no use.
-
definately not 8 thats quicker than an 8v!! im guessing about 9.5-10?
-
haha i doubt it

10.1 in the max power haynes book

10.1 in the max power haynes book
is that for the carb engine?

Those rovers are very nippy for a 1.4, either with 95 or 105bhp depending on year. However, i found them quite gutless in everyday driving and as weird as this may sound, whilst the golf may not be quicker off the line i would say it will probably feel the quicker car to drive. The one thing those 1.4 k-series engines lack is torque!

thats exatcly what i want im not too fussed about racing other cars i just want something nice to cruise in with a bit of poke low down that pulls nicely.

Why not just go for a 8v GTi mate...
-
i not a huge difference in insurance for 1.8 driver and 1.8 8v gti...but 1.8 driver about 10 seconds to 60 maybe wee bit more...gti 8v about 8.5 and the 16v about 7.9-8.0(but after 60mph the 16v will leave 8v standing )
-
got an 8v by any chance bobby?
'cough' 16v 7.5, 8v 9 'cough'
-
well the the cheapest insurance quotes i got was from hic online i got quoted just over a grand on the 1.8 driver but they wont evern quote me on anything above group 12 insurance which is a shame as id like to buy the 8v gti dont see why they wont quote me im 22 i do have 6 points mind and no ncb and i only want limited millage.

:grin:i have mate...and miss my old mk2 16v...was the fastest mk2 16v id owned...for some mad reason it put out 150bhp...only mod was stainless system..and would hit 142mph on rev-limit(so ive been told )..used to love destroying many a supposed faster cars  ....
but now im in a gti 8v ...not that its a bad car...cos its one of the cleanest mk2 gti's ive owned...and runs like a new car...and goes very well...but it does lack the 16v grunt at higher speeds...still it will do till i hunt down another small bumper mint 16v
-
they are both good cars, its a good laugh comparing them but lets face it, neither are that quick! maybe ive owned a 16v too long
but for the purposes of santa pod 16v vs 8v showdown the 8v's are slow as sh!t
-
u wanna ring martin at hic as they dont have all there stuff on line...
he has always sorted me out ok
