Title: swapping cars on my policy...
Post by: dabill on 23 November 2007, 10:18
hallo there, guess this is mainly aimed at martin, but anyone else know anything then feel free to advise...

righty, had a bump in my car, and im reletivly convinced that it might not be worth repairing, so i was just thinking along the lines:

can i swap the car on my insurance policy and will that cost alot?

and also, if i decided i wanted to perhaps go for a 16v instead of another 8v, would i be looking at major bucks to insure it?

is there anything else i should be thinking of?

im not wanting to make a claim or anything, just sort and strip the old car and get a new one (providing its not repairable... if it is then i'll not be doing anything obviously...

thanks

I've had to do this before - basically it's an admin fee (usually about £30) and then, obviouls the difference in cost between insuring the 2 differnt cars for the duration of the policy.

Dunno if I explained that well so an example!

Say your car is £1000 a year, and the new one would be £1200 a year, but there's only 6 months left to run - you'd have to pay an extra £100 (half the difference in price as only 6 months left) plus the admin fee

There - pretty sure I made that about as clear as mud!!

nah that made perfect sence to me hehe! currently paying 1500 i think for an 8v, but thinking about a 16v providing my car isnt repairable... so guessing it might be 100£ or so dependant.

might have to haeva  chat with martin and look at options...

Yeah Tom explained that pretty well. It will cost you any difference in premium for the time remaining on your policy + an admin fee (25.00).

I dont deal with policy adjustments myself but if you wanna send me your policy number & contact number then i will get someone from our customer services team to work it out for you.
