silly but which do you use?? im currently using a 225/40/18 but am thinking of changing to a lower profile i.e 225/35/18. anybody got any views on this??

wount the 35's make it a bumpy'er ride.....
-
would you then not need a bigger wheel to keep the gearing correct ?

i think it would be slightly bumpier, not sire about the gearing, why would that the tyer size make any difference to the gearing?
just asking these questions as i dont really know much about tyers but my friend has 225/35/18 on his mk4 1.8t and they look far better as they are a lower profile.

Joe,
The '35' in 225/35/18 refers to the sidewall height and is expressed as a percentage of the width of the tyre. So it's 35% of 225mm instead 40% of 225mm. This will make the radius slightly smaller and the gearing slightly lower.
Think big chainwheel/small chainwheel on a push bike and you'll be spot on.
I would be more concerned about the compromises to the ride and handling though, 35% aspect ratio does not leave a lot of sidewall compression space left.
It could leave your wheelarches looking a little undernourished too.
