Post by: VWCars4Life on 20 November 2007, 19:26
Hi,

Kinda new to the gti forum. I just want to know is it worth putting a induction kit / and a hole new exhaust system on my car?!?!

It's a year 2000 (W Reg), 30k on the clock / VW Golf Mk4 1.4i 16v 3dr/Black (ALL STOCK)... well looked after!

I'm mainly after sound + some more hp :) im running low here... MEDIC! :D

Cheers in advice,

VWCars4Life.

There really isn't much point. Just save the money and buy a GTi lol

This is just my opinion but when I see a non GTi driving around with a aftermarket exhaust system I just think his a tosser.

You can by all means do this, its down to you really.

you prob not goin to get much hp out of it all and its prob goin to cost a fair wack for a full new exhaust system, if you just after sounding abit more beefy, just go for an induction kit and a back box, prob set you back between 100-300 depending on what make you go for.
gather you didnt get the gti because of the insurance costs ???
nice set of 18" alloys, decent sound system an induction kit and sports back box would be my list of stuff for it  you'll at least look and sound the part, just dont be racing out

Thats not nice, MK4's are nice what ever you have, and i think for the younger driver theres nothing wrong with having a non-GTI Golf, this is more that likly the reason for the exhaust (well noise and that too) fair play to you mate to be honest, ive got a standard GTI with a Revo Remap and well what can i say, shes faster than most MK4's with just the bang and suck changed, oh btw ive not changed my filter or exhaust dont feel i need to....

I didnt say there was anything wrong with owning a standard Mk4, I just think its a little silly spending money "doing her up" when you might aswell keep it how it is for a few years, save the money you would have spent and then get a proper one.

Also as I said, everyone to their own.

I have just seen this thread and il tell you guys that the 1.4 golfs aint that bad!

IMO best induction kit is the pipecross one, lovely sound towards higher revs.

Apart from obviously the filter, there arent that many things you can do; a chip will do next to nothing, I know because I had mine chipped when the 1.4 lump was in it  :embarassed: Apart from that if you want to get a bit of speed is just do your cams and get a full straight through system which will increase air flow but to be honest if you got a 1.4 you aint gonna get much speed out of it, hence why I changed my lump - plus the fact that the gearboxes are weaker then a stoned 3 yr old, plus they cost a f**king bomb to replace as they are like gold dust!

i agree with aland i hate these kevs in there stupid cars(corsa, nova, astra and anything they can get there hands on) you need a gti in your life mate but least your part of the golf family and thats a start so id get a nice sized back box that aint to loud just enough to have nice purr to her and a pipercross induction kit should do the job and to get the looks slam some r32 alloys in under those arches and stay clear off these aftermarket ripspeed crap that you see on sh**ty saxo's

p.s lexus lights are a no no

spend money on stuff you can take with you to your next Golf - lights, wheels, bumpers, side skirts etc; assuming you're next car after the 1.4 will be another MKIV.

keep your 1.4 serviced regularly and build up your NCBs, then get a TDI
