On my 1999 Mk4 GTI, this morning when I started it up, in the Odometer display it said "Service - Oil". but it was just serviced in December!
Is it just that they forgot to reset the service mileage back in December, or does my car have some kind of fancy new-fangled sensor that works out when you need to change the oil? ???

looks like someones been thrashing it a bit too much......lol
Speak to the garage who serviced it and check what they did to the service indicator, also check that they put the right oil in. If yours is a variable service car and they put the fixed schedule oil in this can mess the sensors about. I would check witht htem first. Also does it disappear if you have turned the ignition off or is permanently on, as sometimes there gremlins in the system, My emissions Workshop light comes on every couple of thousand miles and then goes off after a couple of hours or a petrol fill up

It's only on for the first few minutes after I turn on the ignition. Does this have any special significance?
I bought the car from a dealer in Newbury back in December. Thry serviced it before selling it to me. I might try phoning them up tomorrow.
Cheers for the help.

If its anything like the MFA in the Mk3 then the garage have just forgotten to reset the service interval indicator.

Yeah. Spoke to the garage that serviced it and they said my car was not variable servicing, and that they must have just forgotten to reset the clocks.
;D I seem to remember reading a thread a while back on how to reset it. I'll dig that out.
