Title: MK2 GTi Query! Small bumpers 16v 5dr - why so rare???
Post by: MontanaGTD on 19 November 2007, 23:23: I've been thinking about a new project car - a 5dr pre-90 spec 16v with small bumpers. Now i've been looking on ebay for ages and all the nice tidy 5dr's are 8v's. but no 16vs!

How rare are they??

Post by: bobbymk11 on 21 November 2007, 20:01: small bumper 16v 5dr are pretty rare...you'll find a lot more 5dr 16v in big bumper form from august 1989 when they changed to big bumper...why i have no idea....maybe the man in the 1980's had more style :grin: than the man comming into the 90's :grin:....still a mk2 in either 3dr or 5dr 16 or 8v are all good fun :cool:

Post by: Conker on 21 November 2007, 21:14: IIRC... The 5 door wasn't released for a while (nearer the big bumper "era") - to start with only the 3 door was available, so there will be a far smaller proportion of smaller bumpered 5 doors.

I would think that small bumper 16v 5dr cars are like hens teeth, to be honest.

Post by: robiwill on 22 November 2007, 23:10: The only ever 5dr small bumper 16V's we have had have been South African imports as far as I am aware the 16V wasnt available in 5 dr guise untill the big bumper spec came out for the UK market although I may be wrong
