Hi Folks,
Over the years I have had 3 MKII's all on small bumpers and I'm always frustrated in the lack of decent looking and sounding exhaust systems for the small bumper owner. To this end I have been in touch with an exhaust manufacturer to see about producing a small range of exhausts for the MKII that suit the small bumpers. These would likely take the form of a mild steel exhaust systems from the manifold back with stainless tail pipes. I would envisage a range of different tail pipes but to start probably just twin rounds with an outward rolled lip that suits the retro look of the MKII.
At the moment this is all pie in the sky stuff but I'm keen to take it further and I'm looking to see how much interst there would be from fellow small bumper owners. The manfacturer in question already produces outstanding exhuasts of which i have had many years of personal experience (but not on dubs) and I have never managed to break one on bumps and they have never rusted apart. They are very well built and sound amazing. I have no idea on prices but they are very competetive for other vehicles ( Full systems for under £200). WHat I need to do is build up a picture of whether it is worth them stepping outside their usual client base and step into a scene they currently have no business in.
Here are a couple of examples of their work:

So would anyone be interested? I would expect these would only be for GTi's (8v and 16v) to begin with but if it proves profitable for the company in question then smaller engined cars couls well be catered for in the future.

that supersprint fitted to yours looks spot on!

I have always used Powerflow stainless steel systems, they did mine ( full system) for £200, guaranteed for life. I know mine's a big bumper, but they are made to measure.

You got a full powerflow system for 200 quid? I went to my local place 2 years ago and they quoted me 250 quid just for a back box!

Do millteks not fit small bumpers then?
-
Yes but they're very expensive. I'm just trying to canvass opinion on what people think to the tail pipe designs above and whether they would be interested in this kind of exhaust. The company in question has been making exhausts for motorsport for over 30 years so know their stuff.
Also a lot of exhausts on the market just look too long on a small bumpered car.

I reckon if you could get a few people to try them maybe and they can give opinions etc

when i had my small bumper 16v had same problem all the systems where for big bumpers...so back pipes stuck miles out....but to be honest wasnt giving a toss cos it went like f**k and driving experience in my old valver was more important  :evil:miss that car

They won't do that for free. I'm hoping I can get one made up for mine then post pics and videos to demonstrate it.

afraid not mate, no dub exhausts at all at the moment. There's a couple of VR systems for sale on e38 at the moment though.

Yer that sounds like a good idea, if enough people get to know about them and they have positive reviews I reckon they would take off, could be the next big trend on the golfs like the G60 steels or similar.
-
I've also just checked some current prices and their complete system (twin box, manifold back) for a classic mini cooper is 100 quid. The golf system is a bit more complex and longer but I reckon 200 quid would be easily achievable.

Well i'm struggling to find a 16v system with a single tailpipe. At the moment it looks like custom will be the only way
-
Well I've had quite a bit of interest from a few other places so I'm going to see if they can knock one or two up for demonstration purposes and then organise a group buy.
Mew: I reckon they could do a one off with a single exit as it's only like taking 1 end pipe off the back box of a stadard 8v system.

I just noticed this thread and had to say I work for Hilltop Services on the Devon/Somerset border, we make custom exhaust systems in aluminised mild or stainless steel to whatever spec you want (as long as it fits...). We've been making systems for years and are very competitive too so if you wanna price check out www.hilltopservices.co.uk or phone 01404 861 525 and ask for Tom. If you say you're from here I'll give you 10% discount as well! I know this is a bit of an ad but I do have a mk2 8v myself and thats how I came across the thread!
