new civic type -R totally slated by JC, but still lapped faster than golf GTi
I started to miss my old type R (black 54 plate) after seeing the 54 reg one compared against it, then i remembered the ride  the fact you cant open the rear windows, no air con, no front fogs, single CD, and the fact that all rear passengers had to get in the left hand side as the drivers seat doesnt move to allow access.
Still fab engine and gearbox!

didn't clarkson state something like "it's quicker than a Golf GTI but worse car".
-
He did indeed, The civic was only 0.2 of a second quicker that the Golf around the track,
I was thinking that the civic is 0.7 of a second quicker 0-60, this means that the golf must handle better as it gained half a second on the lap after the start.
-
Its not quicker than an Edition 30
-
well, we know that clarkson loves the GTI (ed30 or no) and from the sounds of things, Honda sort of messed up a bit with this new civic when it comes to suspension and lack of power.
-
WHat's the betting in 12 months time there'll be a civic type R + or something with an extra 30bhp and stiffer suspension. THis sort of thing seems to be the trend at the moment.

the fact you cant open the rear windows,
i cant open my rear windows!! and the old one looks so much better and classy!!

Horney how many times have you seen Honda re-work there engines. They didn't even change the new type-r engine, although I did hear they are introducing a type-RR for the hardcore honda fans? weither this will metarialise is another thing.

They are introducing a Civic Type RR in the new future and i think it was like the coupe version and it was more of a track day car with a price tag of around 40k+
-
My girlfriends mother drives a Civic.
When you buy a Civic, you get a Honda.
All said.
-
i have had both of the old shape type r and as i worked for honda i took the new one home for the day and did not like it as it felt too grown up and less hardcore, i the jc got it spot on
old one this was at 215 bhp

I know somebody whos dad got him the new typre r gt. 20 grand it cost.
I remmeber when he tried to show off with it. And it just sounded like an electric shaver lol.
I knew it was crap from when i saw it. So the clarkson review was no surprise.

I used to have an 05 plate CTR and that was a fun car although I tired of having to wring its neck. The major fault with the engine of that car is its lack of torque. It sounds like one of those pub conversations but it really does affect how you drive the car and makes it quite tiresome. It was a fun car and the handling was great (in the dry), scary f*cker in the wet though.
Honda have lost the plot with the latest model though. A Type R is supposed to be about a killer chassis and a raw experience. I'm afraid the latest model is suffering from MK4 Golf Syndrome, they need to go back to their roots.
-
i do like the new Type R but as with all new models they tend to weight more which then affects everything when it comes to performance :undecided:
-
JDM Civic has an uprated engine - over 235bhp as dyno'd and this is touted as the doner engine for the forthcoming Civic RR (if it ever materialises). The JDM Civic is a saloon and can lap Motegi only 2 seconds slower than an NSX  The JDM Civic also has full wishbone suspension and if you want it can be privately imported by Litchfield....see below link :nerd:

I just dont know if to believe their lap times or not?? The R32 is 6 secs quicker that the ctr on the topgear site..

let's not forget that VW didn't always improve the GTI with new models - thank goodness MKIV to V went the right way.

there is a huge contradiction between top gear tv and top gear mag. in the mag, the type-r was praised as being the best hot hatch but clearly not on the tv show.
Love the type-r but was dissapointed with the new ones engine. Would think it sounds nicer than the gti tho. can't beat the noise of an engine at 8500 rpm!

Damn right too... the R32 engine sounds       how can I ever forget that sound.. ahhhhhhhh...
I probably had really low mpg on that car because I would press the accelerator just to hear that V6 symphony and when overtaking cars on the motorway, I made sure to drop down a gear and press the accelerator hard so that they were under no illusions as to what was overtaking them    It was one of my favoruite aspects about the R32... pure class. The GTI sounds like a bee compared to the majestic roar of the R32.

I saw that one on the Civic Type R.. But didnt James May test it?
He was thrashing it all over the track... Or being in South Africa did I see the wrong episode?
