Alright lads, after a little journey I tried to lock my car with the key fob but it wouldnt do anything so I pressed the unlock button which worked. I then pressed the lock button on the inside of the door ( the one near the window buttons ) which only locked the three doors except the drivers door so I closed the door and locked the drivers manually. It was then that I noticed the drivers side puddle light was permanantly on!. I then put the key in the lock and turned it and then only the drivers door opened.
God knows whats going on but I think it might be a fuse that has somthing to do with the c locking blown. what do you guys think?

Alright
i think it's something to do with resetting the key code i came across it a few days ago on here, common problem apparently, do a search on here on how to reset.

ok found it, go here and scroll down the list.

Ahh!! I dont have two keys!
And the key fob unlocks the car, well three of the doors anyway.
-
I dont think recoding your key has anything to do with it. If your puddle light is on all the time I suspect that the microswitch that is part of the lock assembly is beefed. What about the courtesy lights? Are they on all the time too?
-
yea they stay on too, but why does the switch on the inside only lock the other three doors then mate?
-
cos your dook lock module is knackered! hence why he referred to the mircoswitch; within the module they break down; you can repair it though its a tad fiddly!
-
Ahh right lol :embarassed:
So do I order a new door lock module or a micro switch or is it best left to the experts?
-
have a look here mate:

depends on confident you feel taking your door apart and how good you are with a soldering iron
-
Hmmm, thanks for the info matey but I think this is a job best left to the experts in my case. So I need to get the door lock module replaced? Thats going to cost me bout £70 plus 2 hours labour?
-
Mine locks work fine but the passenger red door light and the interior light dont come on. I take its the micro switch . If i buy a new lock mec are the new ones better quality? For £70 plus the labour its worth getting a new one me thinks.
-
Just looked on euro car parts and its £75.68 and two hours labour is about £80.
Ill have to get that sorted then...
-
Rhyso, ive just had a thought....
If it is the lock mechanism then why does the lock button on the blipper do nothing at all? It doesnt even lock the other three doors as Id expect it to if it was just one of the doors lock beefed...
Just a thought mate....

The problem is is that the switch that tells the convienience module (which controls the central locking) whether the door is open or not appears to be stuck and is permanantly telling it that the door is open. Your car has more sense than to lock itself with the drivers door open and will ignore that command from the key. The fact that the car responds in some way when you press the unlock button means that the key is correctly coded to the car.
Similar issues can happen with the infamous rear wash wipe pipe splitting and drowning the micro swith in the boot which can mean the alarm going off randomly, the boot not locking / alarm not arming etc etc. PITA.......... I'm not saying this is your problem here at all, its just another common mk4 problem......

Ah right ok mate im with you now, it makes sense about the not locking when it thinks the doors opened.
Cheers for all your input lads
