Title: Identifying 8 or 16v from VIN Number?

My car isa  genuine GTI, but has had the 1.6 GTD Turbo diesel engine fitted. I think the brake master cylinder is stuffed, but it looks like the 8 and 16v nodels used different ones.

Can I ID my car from the vin no or any other give aways?

would still like to know if the VIN holds any info, but just looked in the front of the service book and it states plian as day, "Golf GTi 16V"  :laugh:

heres the car. Before you start its just as I collected it and its driving me bonkers that I can't get stuck into it yet as ive got exams next week so have been revising my tits off for the last 3 weeks. (I'm 32, but doing a post grad course through work) its basically solid, has 12 months MOT, just needs a bit of TLC!

anyway, the guy I bought it off put the back lights in as it had m3 clears in and also put the alloys on. Dont know if they were the original ones for the car (got 16v lights, BBS Ra's amd late model interior lined up allready :grin:)

I thought it was probably an 8v but the service book says 16v?

Anyone got a spare boot badge lying about?

It's an 8v. 16vs had roof mounted aerials.

yes, the guy who fitted the diesel engine decided it was no longer an "i" model and broke it off.

the door badges have had the black i rubbed off too.

Of course ill be looking to replace/ repaint in, Anyone got a spare rear badge?
