Title: Gearbox wanted Mk3 Gti 8v (96)
Post by: Ruji on 16 November 2007, 20:06: hi, had problems with my reverse gear and has resulted in a complete loss of the reverse gear and now i'm seeking a replacement gearbox to see if it would work out cheaper for me buying from anyone here or to go ahead with reconditioning the existing one!

Am looking for a nice cost effective one as i want to keep expenses to a minimum as per usual for anyone! So if anyone has any ideas of wher to track one from, preferably within the midlands: Wolverhampton/b'ham or coventry area!?

Ruji, phone Full Custom Gearboxes in coventry (he's in yellow pages), he quoted me Ã‚£150 plus parts to fix the reverse, most other guys in Cov wanted around Ã‚£500

Post by: flex on 21 April 2008, 20:02: My m8 had this problem with his mk3 a while back, turned out it was only the bolt that holds the linkage to the selector on the gearbox(for the left and right selection of gears) it was a bit loose, tightened it back up and everything was cool. Might be worth a look first.

Post by: Blackie_No1 on 21 April 2008, 20:58: I'm gettin my gearbox rebuilt for Ã‚£150 in Belfast! Hopefully picking up another gearbox for Ã‚£100 from a scrappy that ive been told about over here, gonna have it lyin as a spare just in case, might even strip it and rebuild over time.

Where from? thats a bargain, cheepest ive had is Ã‚£400 1 year warrenty
pinion bearing has gone on mine, this will be the second box in 2 years!
first one jumped out of reverse, same old!

thats a crazy price please give some more info on where you are getting this from!
