If you have never driven a Mk2 - in decent condition - then you really need to forget about that lump of lard known as the Mk3 GTI and get yourself a proper GTI - the Mk2 16v... 8v's are ok too, but lose a bit of oopmh at higher speeds.  If it isn't going to leave Gibraltar, then a Mk2 8v GTI is your best bet.

I think this will have to be my first mod... followed by brakes (I think the brakes on the Ed30 are crap - the R32 ones were way better), intercooler, suspension and THEN and Oettinger re-map.

What would need to be your first mod??

Last night was on awesome gti trying to convince myself to buy the carbonio intake or ifnot get the eibach pro kit...i had 5 ppl sit in the car to see how it would look lower and i must say it looks alot nicer...very undecided

The Forge DV

The Forge DV

Have to agree with that, first thing I did was the Forge DV along with Carbonio Intake and Milltek Exhaust. Eibach Pro Kit and R32 rear lights go on next week after its been colour coded

Will fit the intercooler when I can get down and get it remapped.

I'm still tempted by the ECS upgrade brakes

mines lowered with eibach, looks sweet and handles a hell of a lot better as theres not as much roll. only bad point is that its alot more bumpy. oh ....... and tall speed bumps can be a pain in the @rse!!

Title: Re: In the mood for buying.........................
Post by: SteveS on 19 November 2007, 23:21
replaces the bosch plastic one which is prone to leak and crack over time/remap.
the forge one is metal and well... i duno designed better i guess, they claim it improves the boost..

A well developed DV will:-

Help preserve the integrity and life of the turbo
Help the turbo spool up faster and hence give a quicker throttle response

It will not give extra power at the top of the power band, but will help reduce the lag effect of a turbo.

They do look the part although for a road wheel they are seriously pricey, We used the real deal on our race car:

Right, this threads going to end up costing me a bomb... I HAVE to have a set of those LMs - looked on ebay but only replicas there and I wouldn't touch them.  I have been thinking about alloys for a while but couldn't find anything - I was wondering whether you could get 18" or 19" BBS RS001s - fat chance.

Replica of the race wheel so paying for the image. BBS do make good quality wheels but the LM's are overpriced IMO. There are alternatives, I'm looking at these for the summer:

It is true that there are loads of multi-spoke reps about. I just can't bring myself to buy them. I'd rather save the pennies and buy originals. I'm not saying that reps are rubbish.....errr...or maybe I am :undecided:, I just feel more secure knowing that a race specced wheel is under the wings of my car and not some copy that may be made to a lower spec.

I've got my standard wheels on for the winter so not in a rush. You're right though there is a quality issue with some of these manufacturers but I can't find any that I like from the decent manufactures, except for RAYS but they are as expensive as BBS
