You're not a real MK4 driver if you haven't had a dropped window

Thanks guys, I guess I'm a member of a new club!
-
Any luck with VW doing it for free?
-
Gonna ring Monday and try and speak to the geezer who I bought the car off. Don't ask don't get!

How did you get on with this? Looks like I've just joined the club too. Went to put the window up, heard a loud crack and the window stopped moving. Managed to pull the glass up.
Spoke to the local dealer who said they would have to have a look at it before deciding if it was eligible for a goodwill replacement. The cost of 'looking' at it? £55 plus VAT!
How much should I be looking at to get this done at an indy garage? I know there are guides to doing it myself but it looks too complicated for me!
Cheers

you'd be looking at an hour's labour i guess. its about 5 minutes to remove the door card but then you have to remove the inner metal panel; think thats riveted on :undecided:
deffo don't pay the £55 for them to look at it! fooking rip off merchants!!
just drive up, get them to come outside and then operate the window. they'll know whats wrong when it drops into the door!!

I was one of the fortunate few. I owned 2 mk4's over a period of 4 years and never had one dropped window :)

When my brothers went he paid the stealer to fix and later found out he could have had it for free - when he wrote off to VWUK he got the full cost back

I spoke to VW UK this morning and they confirmed that they would only do goodwill repairs on vehicles under 5 years old
So I put it into a local vw specialist this morning who said they would do it for £107. They rang me to say it was finished less than the 1 1/2 hours they said it would take so maybe the bill will be a wee bit less than that.

lying bar stewards; its 6 years and or 90K less    i'd write them a letter and point out that VW America did a full recall; worth a try

Doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately my car is a 2000 X plate so even at six years I'm out of it. I'm going to write a begging letter anyway - you never know. £108 it cost to get it sorted.
The bit that pi$$es me off is that the dealer wouldn't tell me what the eligibility criteria was, all they would say is that in some cases they would do a goodwill repair but I would have to take it in for this expensive 'look'. Given they asked the age and mileage and given what VW told me this morning - they knew fine well the car fell outside the criteria. Sly funkers.

Just need to be sure i have a mk4 window just dropped its a v plate with only 71k miles on it, your thread says with less than 90k so would mine qualify for a free repair.
thanks

V plate is more than 6 years old so i'm afraid you won't qualify but i'd still give it a go!!
