I'm lovin' my Mk2 at the moment, despite all its niggles. Looking forwards at least several years, I've considered maybe I could upgrade to a Mk2 G60, e.g. if mine was completely eaten by rust or if it was stolen or crash damaged (touch wood!).
Two questions...
1) Looking at the stats, the G60 compares to the 16v as follows:
(Stats from: http://www.globalcar.com/datasheet/Volkswagen/1990_Volkswagen_Golf_G60.htm )
16v G60
0-60 7.5 8.3
Torque Nm 168 225
Kerb Weight (Ton) 0.9 1.1
Torque Nm Per Ton 185 209
Now, the G60 is supposedly slower than the 16v, yet its got more torque per ton. Is this true? Is it just a gearing issue improving the 16v 0-60, but otherwise the G60 is "generally" faster???
2) Can any of you who have had G60's put some context to this - Does it feel faster than the 16v, is it a different driving experience etc. I've been in Polo G40 and that was rapid in a buzzy way, but I've not been in a G60.
Cheers dudes,

I'd say that info is duff as 8.3 is the 0-60 for the standard 8v.

also the 1985 golf gti is listed as being 110bhp (should be 112) and more relevantly an 8.1sec 0-60 time... so dont believe the stats
-
So whats the real 0-60 time, I can't find it (only found times for modded G60's)?
I know 0-60 times are meaningless in a lot of ways, hence my other question about he G60 driving experience...
-
My G60 as standard was rapid, much quicker than a 16v id driven, youl probably never find a completely standard engined G60 though so don t worry bout it!
-
its probably the gearing vs rev limit. Remember a 16v can get to 60 in 2nd, where 8vs cannot (unless they have the very late 020 box with the taller 2nd)
-
g60 is slightly quicker to 60 than 16v...but after 60 g60 will pull away no probs...
g60's are fantastic cars...but id prefer 16v everytime for me...just has to be one of the best all round engines with reliablity they made for the mk2 era..

Compared to my valver, the G60 i'd been in was a rocket. Much more punchy where the 16v wasn't so it does feel faster.

Hard to get 60 in second in a G.!

Does that mean that an 84 is even less power and quicker to 60!?
Hope so......

no, all non-cat 1.8 GTIs were 112bhp, even the MK1s. Just looks like the specs are wrong...
