Ive noticed on cold mornings, while car is warming up my MPG is like under 15 all the time and my rear window gets steamed up due to the white smoke coming out the DTM exhaust ... once the cars at operating temperature etc it doesn't smoke as far as im aware.
Should I be worried about this because I recall exhaust smoking is something related to piston rings or valve stem??? Cars being serviced today for the winter anyway ... BUT just wanted to get the views of some dubbers here regarding this.
-
Normally its just condensation in the exhaust system being heted up and blown out as steam. If that stops when engine warm then all is fine.
-
Mate low MPG while warming up is normal if its on setting 1 on the MFA....

lol, I just dropped my car off ... service done, but water pump n belts being changed :( :( :( my mechanic instantly heard an unusual rattling sound as soon as I entered the forecourt of the garage and said it doesnt seem to be running smooth to me and then he nailed it down to the waterpump. Ahhhh seems like I wont be doing any more mods.
-
water pump wont effect the power or normal running of the engine unless of course it siezes and the engine overheats!
It will make it sound rattly but it doesnt mean that the engine is knackered at all.
-
Chances are the water pump bearing or impeller has gone or is going.
Stuff like that hurts the wallet, but better get it done before a total fail. THAT would be pricey.
I don't think it'd be related to white smoke, but it's a good job done anyway.
Cheers,
James

The only thing that produces white smoke other than normal condensation is a blown head gasket! And you know its not that!

Heh ... Just went back, the TIMING BELT is also being changed !!!! ... Lol, basically ive got to say good bye to the 40mm Lowering, Black Angel Eye Headlamps and Black VW badges now :( ... to be honest i'd rather have my car mechanically A1 condition than spend cash on cosmetic mods so fair play.
Any one have any idea what a good price is to pay for the SUPPLY & FIT of a waterpump/timing belt and just the labour for an oil/spark plug change??
Just want some opinions on what you'd think a good price is ... so I know im not being ripped off.
-
£130 tops I reckon !!
Cambelt supplied and fitted £80 (What I paid)
Waterpump done at the same time as the cambelt has to come off £20
Oil and filter change £15 tops as its a piece of pee
-
Make sure they set the timing correct only needs one tooth out to make it wrong!
With the plugs etc. I'd say you're looking at at least £150
-
Through a garage id say around the £150 mark. Through someone you know and trust, £40 all in, well thats what ive paid!
-
I paid £250 for everything :( :( :(
Coolant drained, cambelt fitted, waterpump/tensioners fitted, service carried out ... :(
-
£250 isnt bad if it sorts your problems.........as long as it was a full service with plugs and filters etc
-
Coolant will be drained when you take the water pump out!
Dont think your bill is excessive when you add in plugs filters oil and coolant.
I mean oil is around £30 alone!
