Title: Mk2 GTi - How many built/sold

Hi.

I'm a Mk2 16v owner based in Ireland, having imported both my cars from the UK.

Over on octane.ie, which can be described as the Irish pistonheads equivalent, we are trying to find out how many Mk2 GTis were a) built in total and b) sold in the UK. If someone could discover how many might still be on the road, that would be an additional bonus.

Wikipedia states that in 1990, 50,000 were sold and I know over 10 million Golfs were built, but that's all I can find.

Any help appreciated.  :smiley:

On top gear when they road tested it they dropped 110,000 I think.
