Title: engine STOP comes on saying check coolant ..... coolant is fine
Post by: BobbyT on 13 November 2007, 16:25: word up, now i am guessing that a sensor must have gone....maybe in the headder tank?

just want anyinput if anyone has had this before,

start car fine and then after about thirty seconds the stop starts comming up on the dash

Post by: Horney on 13 November 2007, 16:28: At a guess there will be a sensor in the expansion bottle that reads the coolant level. It's probably that although not sure how you would test it!

The part (the whole tank, as you can't get the sensor on its own (I think)) was under Ã‚£10, IIRC, & took about 15 mins to swap - Did it in my lunchbreak one day. The problem came back afterwards as well, but this was because I had too much coolant in. Check your level is RIGHT ON that 'ridge' that goes around the middle of the tank. :smiley:

Post by: J5H VW on 14 November 2007, 13:22: I had this problem too, and like an annoying ex, I just ignored it till it stopped trying to bother me. I had this a few times, only when it was really cold in the morning. I checked the coolant, all seemed fine. When i restarted the car, I cleared itself. When I get this now, i just run the car for a min, kill the engine and then restart it. Seems to solve the problem.

It only happened a few times and when it was really cold though - so beware if it happens on a warm day with a hot engine.

Does the sensor pick up on too much coolant then? could be the really cold mornings making coolant expand and metals shrink therefore making too much coolant in the header?? (or is that just stupid) :nerd:

The car has never done it before and doesnt do it any other times in the day, Just after it has stood over night.
