hi all,
I have just bought a 1.8t it has climatronic and an Alpine CDE-9845RB cd head unit, can i have your thoughts on this unit, I am thinking of changing it back to a Gamma stereo that comes as standard to save me or the missus forgetting to remove the face plate when parked up and some oik nicking it.
Any one know where i can pick up a gamma head unit and cd changer etc?
Is this a better option.... I look forward to your thoughts,
Paul

alpine all the way mate its a far better unit than standard, i always keep my head unit in and have never had any problems but i do have a good alarm system

It depends really upon what you expect from it - if you want to use RCA leads for amps etc, then obviously the alpine is the more flexible option.
If you're only planning to use standard speakers, and don't want to add any extras, you could get a standard set if it puts your mind at rest. Keep in mind that the alpine *probably* has a higher power output than a gamma, so you may experience a drop in clarity and available power.

you can sometimes find standard stereos at your local scrappy, thats the only place other then your main dealer which would be a rip off! id personally keep the alpine all the way, getting a stanard wold be like un-evolving

Guy's thanks for your thoughts
Found another option,
Just found a Kenwood Mask KCR777R brand new in my brothers cupboard he bought it then trashed his car and never round to installing it, so i think this would solve my problems as the mask obvioviously hides the face plate.
Just one thing I now needs a cd changer as the head unit is a tape... any one know where I can get one cheap?
Again thanks for your help.

i sound like a proper yardy here but id try a scrappy again if you want one cheap that's fit for purpose. otherwise ebay it up mate

Watch the fittings as some makes only work with same.

if you have got the older alpine design with the 8 pin din plug on the back...there arent many changers available for it out there now...its sorta..prehistoric now.....i no i got a clearance 6 disc changer in my wolverhampton halfords store in my clearance cablinet goin for £100 but thats if its still there.
otherwise if you have the new type output on the back of the head unit which looks like a circle with 2 little rectangles inside it then that is the newer style outputs which you can still order changers for. halfords 6 disc alpine changers start from say £180 +...then further mor if you wanted the MP3 compatible ones which goes up in the £200-300's
if you have a new cd changer output...you could consider an ipod interface instead which come in at around £70-80...cheaper options off the net of course!
