Im in practically the same situation as you mate. I'll be 21 in a few days time and i have 0 NCB. Also looking to buy a 16v in the summer. I think the best thing is to ring up and get a few insurance quotes as then you know for sure what you'll expect to pay.

I'm hoping mine will be under ?800 for tpft

Try tesco, HIC, Sabre... I used to work for Hyperformance, but I think they are out of the market for under 25s now.. :'(

As Ellisdee says, being over 30 aint so bad... i was paying ?220 for my valver with max ncd !! ;)

if you put your ma on as a 2nd driver with elephant you will save between 20-30%

ideally you want to build up no claims and be over 25 and have a sensible postcode!

then you get insurance for ?300 FC protected NCB

yee har

Just be careful with Tesco matey, When I read the small print they don't insure any cars with mods. But if you are leaving your car standard thats cool! I'm with HIC, & as long as you don't increase your bhp by more than 10 all mods are covered!  Just a thought. ;)

Try Norwich Union Direct. They don't distinguish between provisional and full licences regarding how long you have held it. If you got your provisional when you were 17, that's when they consider you got your licence (think no claims bonus). It saved me ?350. Consider a limited mileage policy if you don't do that many miles. A pass plus will also be considered a years NCB with some insurers. Can work out cheaper to pay for it when you count the policy savings. Fairly useful too.

I'm 25 with 4 yrs NCB - full Cat 1, but not declared any of the mods (really should do I know).

Paying 500 Fully Comp which isn't bad - could get it down to ?400ish but waiting to finish this years policy to get the magic 5 years!!

If you have cosmetic mods like mine that really are just other VW parts with a few extra's, I'm guessing I should declare them, but hopefully they shouldn't push Up the premium too much???

What do you think ??

Fully comp for a Golf Limited ?350 27 no -noclaimes name driver has 6 points for speeding! Value 8,000 has to be paid out in full.

Ok it is classic insurence and I can't earn a no-claims bonus from it but I have the everyday driver for that.
Any Golf up to a H reg can now go on a classic policy

Hi,

I Got insured with Elephant, did a really good price considering....4 accidents, 23yrs old, 3 points and no no claims.

Mines an 8v and cost 700 fully comp, the 16 would have cost 60 more.

29 years old fully comp - ?399 with Brentacre (local swansea company, which apparently are somehow a part of golfgti club) , thats with a whole load of external mods, i.e different alloys, single grill etc.

Ellisdee  - Who did you go through? Sund like i could get this a bit cheaper :)
