Its not the kit but how its fitted that decides how it will sound but if you do a good job and use a bit of well placed sound proofing it should sound rather nice, good luck with the install

Inside the doors behind the speaker pods and you could do the floor of the boot, realy the only limit is your time and money !

That's all fine kit you're using - the only thing I'd do is ditch the rear comps - you will save time, money and improve the sound.

Good luck with the install, and get some pics up when you're done.

rainbows are a great choice... i have them in my mk3... you won't need components in the rear though... especially if you are running them through an amp... you will end up with a very high pitched little speaker in your ear and it will take over everything else... trust me... you won't need it. I have only components in the front and it is all you need.

good luck with the install... if you can upgrade to something a little more than the alpine sub.

do you really not think ill need the comps in the rear? will it still be as loud without??
whats wrong with the type R sub? can you recommend a better one

I promise you it WILL be loud enough with one set of comps.  Solid installation of the mids, and some good deadening is the way to go.

I've never heard an alpine type r, the box you put it in is what can really make the difference.

ive been told the best box for it is the alpine ported box, apparently its the proper box for that sub, what do i need to do for sound deadening, where do i need it? also do i just take off the door card and put it all in the door??

Alpine Type R subs aren't too cracking I had one for about 3 weeks and swapped it for a JBL as it just didn't seem loud enough (worked in a car audio shop) the JBL beat the Alpine into the ground it rocked like a mother.

no - you won't need the comps in the rear - save yourself some money and spend it on one of these instead...

no point in doing any installation unless you sound deaden...

ok thanks for the suggestions, dynamat seems a good investment, and im thinking about changing the type r sub and amp for a jl 1000 mono and a w7 sub, but if i do this wont the bass kill my single rainbow comps up front, ive already got the v power amp for them at 90w rms??
Title: Re: Heres the install
Post by: gribsymk3 on 11 November 2007, 18:22
or would i be better with a jl 500/1 mono and a w6 sub??
Title: Re: Heres the install
Post by: Guy on 11 November 2007, 20:35
no - because you would set the amp to the right levels... this is why a professional install makes all the difference... the rainbows are able to handle it anyway and they aren't 'bassy' speakers

your head unit will be able to control the sub level anyway... but have you thought about this... http://www.alpine-europe.com/index.php?id=digital_media_receiv&L=0 (http://www.alpine-europe.com/index.php?id=digital_media_receiv&L=0) - if you have an ipod it's well worth considering... my current alpine sucks at ipod control

measure in decibels and not 'watts' or whatever

thanks mate your a big help, im defo gunna invest in some dynamat, im actually considering an alpine monitor now, i am tempted to go for the 500/1 mono amp and a 12" w6 sub to save the expense, will this still give good bass power? think it delivers 500w rms

Post by: Guy on 11 November 2007, 22:06
you don't have to do it all at once if you don't have the cash... I haven't... but if you want decent sounds it's worth waiting a wee while and getting some more bang for your bucks!
Title: Re: Heres the install
Post by: gribsymk3 on 11 November 2007, 22:22
ok so ya reckon a jl 1000 mono amp and a W7 sub? i know what yor saying, will this be ok to run from my normal battery ect??
Title: Re: Heres the install
Post by: Guy on 11 November 2007, 22:49
yep - seems quite tasty....  will be fine to run from your battery

are you attempting this install yourself?

just been advised well...  so far!

either use a JL box or a stealthbox if you have the money... depends what you want your install to be like... (i'm still deciding) - there is also a sticky thread pointing to this forum article on doing it yourself if you have the nouse and the time.... http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=76606 (http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=76606)

jst thought id mention if you got a mk3 gti, expect a lot of power loss with install...power to weight ratio is a major factor to a motors speed...the aerial atom for example

i have a tiny amp, 2x 5" vibes, and the rest completly stripped out and the speed difference was jaw dropping!

I wouldn't expect too much of a power loss - how much is your kit likely to weigh?

Do you notice a significant performance loss when you have a passenger?  Thought not.

fair point, when you have rear wheel drive or 4 wheel, but in a front wheel drive car you cant keep the power down anyway, there's no point in having a mk3 with over 200 ish bhp cos you cant use it
