VW GOLF GTI 8v MK2 - Weight: 1111kg

Ive not got many hits :( and my images are old now >:( i need to update lol
-

I highly doubt that... u see, a 1.1 Rover 200 is over 1000Kg and its got no electrics or bugger all ... plus a small ALUMINIUM engine (not a cast iron lump)
Oh and read the GTI information on this page ... "mk3 weight 1034Kg" (or sumwhere around that)
according to my manual ... the 8v GTI WITH A DRIVER, OIL, FUEL, POWER STEERING FLUID, WASHER JET WATER etc etc it weighs 1185 ... ...
Adult Male Driver - average weight 13st. ... converted to KG = 83Kg.
so the car with the fluids but NO driver weighs 1102kg ... take out the fuel etc and ya talking the 1034Kg figure from the "GTI info" thread.
The mk2 probably weighs 920Kg ... Without a driver and any fluids.
-
ok ok ill f**kin change it :D
-

So mk2's 8v's are lighter than mk3 8v's. but we knew that didnt we?
And they are quicker, but we knew that as well didnt we?
and you engine is BIGGER :o !
hmmmm........
-
Yes but instead of 1130kg or whatever was on that chart, its only 1035kg.
and .... u can still legaly make mk3 golf's ... but u cant legally make mk2's.
No airbag, side impact bars etc ... i wanna live if i crash ;) :D
-
yes but they arent making them any more, so that is hardly a valid comment. there are lots of cars like that on the road, so that argument, well isnt actually.
-
and .... u can still legaly make mk3 golf's ...
why would you want to do that?
-
cos there great
-
if you live on a houseboat on the thames! ;D
besides great aint that good ;)
-
????? ... at least mines worth more :D
anywayz, I'll have a 150Bhp mk4 next year when I hit 20.
And that'll thrash ur 8v. :D ;)
-
yeah by which time i will have it chipped, cam'd, ported and it will STILL be lighter than yours,mk3 or mk4! you cant get away from the fact oyur car, and your future car ::) are lardy
-
hmm ok
Chip a normally aspirated engine... yep thats POWWA for ya.
... and the other bits ... do em ...
I'll chip my nice turbo to 190Bhp ... ciaobella. :D
-
errr.........
you dont even own a 20vt yet!
everyone is allowed pipedreams! ;)
-
besides possibilities
cam
chip
= 140+bhpish
then port/polish
then short block 2.0
then lighten balance flywheel crank etc
uprate fuel pump and ancillaries
then turbo/supercharger
still gonna have more bhp/tonne than you and weigh less.
-
20v-T into a mk3, mk2 or mk1. I know which my choice would be.
You cant blame Black for loving his mk3, what experience does he have when it comes to driving fast cars? No disrespect, mate, but when you have been driving a few years, you would have experienced a lot more cars, and have a better basis for comparison.
I have owned and driven everything from 2CV's to fully fledged rally cars, and I get the biggest kick out of older hot-hatch style cars, as the fun hasnt been electronically stolen from you or been limited by some new EU governing law!
-
basicaly wat hes ^ saying is....
old skool cars are for the purists (no offence anyone)
-
Spot on Blue.
-
well 8)

Why spend all that ... thats triple ya cars value ;D
Anywayz, I have sumthing u dont have on ya side.
Youth
:D ;) :D ;)

2 things!
nicely said adamb!
and black gti iam only 22. so its not like im old or anything.
Nice one mate. bet you feel 'cool' now. :-*
-
Im always cool mate.
But I'm also sick of people slagging the mk3 and mk4 8v's off.
-
dont worrie dude, One day, When all the Mk2s are gone, People will rember the Mk3 as being faster than the Mk10. Why do golfs seem to just be slowing down as time goes on?
-

If you realised how much i laugh as i type this stuff you would a)realise you were being wound up, and yes you are easy to wind up
b)its nothing personal, im just not keen on mk3's, thats the thing about a forum everyone is entitled to their opinion and their say!
:) :) :-*

Yes but also forget sumthing. This place is called GOLFGTI.co.uk ...
That means it covers ALL GTI's ... from 1.6 mk1 to mk3 2.0 8v and even the 180Bhp 1.8T mk4.
Should we be slating the cars? ppl come and browse this forum without signing up and heres us slating the GTI badge... u think they'll buy one? nope... they'll go make a BIG mistake and buy a Corsa.
Anywayz
I wrote a thread yonks ago saying I didnt like the styling of the mk1 and mk2 and thought they looked old... then after id looked around the mk1 a bit more i started to like it more.. and now i think the MK1 is a nice car... the original and the best.
I still think the mk2 is just a normal hatch and I also think its overrated. I mean 8.3secs to 60 in a 8v??? their not faster than a Rover 420GSI. I've seen that race and I know the outcome... and the Golf didnt finish first.
anywayz, doesnt mean their a sh!t car... but it seems its the majority of mk2 owners that slate the mk3 ... so therefore I slate the mk2.
Theres a GTD mk2 over the road from me... standard everything.... and its a tank... rusty old tank.
But the main thing that winds me up is this "mk2 is DEAD light the the mk3 is a boat" ... 940Kg for the mk2 and 1030Kg for the mk3. 90Kg between them ... mk1 = 840Kg & mk2 = 940Kg ... 110Kg between them... so the BIG jump in weight was between the mk1 and mk2. NOT mk2 and mk3.
btw the 1030Kg is the 8v weight... the 16v weighs closer to 1100Kg.
Theres other things I could write, but I cant be arsed.
-
think evry1 knows the 8v is slow, but comon mate...handling! ::)
-
Not many new cars have good handling...
Mk4 Golf
Mk4 Astra
Fiat Punto
Corsa
... really theres only the Civic, Focus and Mk5 Golf that have "very good" handling.
