Title: problem with stalling on 97 gti
Post by: Scooterist007 on 12 March 2004, 20:08
Hi I have a problem with my 97 gti 8v, I did have a problem with my car cutting out while driving and the oil light flashing, I posted a topic on this, and cos of the replys, I replaced the relay number 30, and that has cured the problem! Now I have another problem, now the car stalls when you come to a junction, well I have read previous topics and have taken the throttle body off and gave it a good clean with wd40, the throttle body was really dirty! while i had this appart, i noticed that the breather pipe coming from the front of the engine to the top of the rocker cover, was all blocked up with white gungy oily mess, I took it all appart and cleaned it up, now when i start the engine up, it doesnt keep ticking over when i first start up, I have to keep reving it up so it doesnt stall, but after about a couple of minuites it will tickover at about just 1000 rpm, but when warmed up it revs really high, at around 1500 rpm. Now i am banging my head again! i cant seem to get a compromise, either it stalls or revs high! any ideas? thanks in advance

Sounds like a vacuum leak, check there isn't a small split in the pipe you cleaned.

ok, the pipe has insulating tape round the bottom bit, where it goes into the sump, but why should this happen after i have cleaned the throttle body and pipe?
