Post by: andypack on 07 November 2007, 20:40
Jesus just been to the petrol station up here in the sticks ( i live in the borders) £105.9 for unleaded and 110.9 for diesel, Whatever happened to all those farmers get em back protesting or maybe we should get a VW protest going and we will block all the roads.  Its skinting me my missus has a land rover td4 and its coting me a fortune.  WERE ARE YOU FARMERS GET BLOCKING THOSE TERMINALS AND MAKE THEM PUT THE PRICE DOWN

Well i've just serviced my mountain bike in anticipation of another hike and the VR6 is on hold.

Ok its only 97.9p(shell) 99.9(tesco) but I can see that £1 mark getting closer and beyond.

Oil is a commodity - the more people want it the more the price rises. China etc will see to that in the meantime. There is plenty of oil, just that it is costly for the oil companies to get at. Perhaps now they'll start drilling.

Biggest winner in all of this is HM Government, as the tax on petrol is @ 80%. This of course is the vast bulk of the price. HMG are hardly going to complain as this is a nice little earner for them, the more so as the price rises.

Of course, they could bring this percentage down to maintain the tax take in £s at a constant, and yet still very high level, but being the wastrels they are in spending our hard earned, this is hardly likely.

In one sense, whoever voted for this bunch of incompetents in HMG is to blame. Certainly voting Tory would not change much either, but Labour is traditionally the party of high tax, and as such, this situation is more likely under their administration.

It's still there, but as it it takes a field the size of Wales to produce a few litres of the stuff there is an ecological issue and a practical issue in meeting supply. Good idea though if you own a chippy - just and ethanol, mix it up a bit and buy and old diesel peugeot. I believe it is becoming more popular, but you can bet your bottom dollar that as soon as it does so, HMG will tax it to the hilt, and the price advantage will evaporate.

ahh biofuel. my mums bf put it in his '06 LR freelander, took about 3 mins of cranking to start it, cost's 7p less and after 2 months his car conked out coz it bugggered up the fuel pump, dont trust biodiesel (yet)

they are going to start making it out of algee (the slidey green stuff u find on rocks by the sea) which has 25 times more oil in it than the normal biodiesel ingrediant (to put 25 times more into perspective, thats like 2500% extra oil in it)
and biodiesel is just oil mixed with diesel its self

the cheepest thing to do, is buy a vr6, shove diesel in the tank, register yourself as a farmer and use red diesel with black food colouring in it, cost like 30p per litre
