Title: Mk2 8v - Running problems, Any help would be appreciated.
Post by: ANDY597 on 07 November 2007, 19:58
My 90spec 8v Mk2 Gti is running like a bag of bolts.   Its feels like it is running on choke all the time and refuses to drive anywhere without constantly stalling. Its drinking jungle juice like its going out of fashion

Sometimes it idles normally on de-revving but other It seems that as soon as let go of the revs it dies.  I have nursed it back and forward to work all week, but I cant go on like this,  and I have to keep bump starting it at junctions or trying to heel toe the revs and the brakes.

I thought it might have been the blue temp sender, so I bought a genuine VW today and tried that when I got home from work.  Now the problem seems worse to be honest.

It started fine,  seem to idle normally,  I give it a hard rev and boom,  it cuts out.

Had a little accident taking the old blue sender out to,  didnt think that there would still be so much water pressure under that little sucker considering the car had been cooling for half an our. Ouch thats hot, someone hand me a towel.

I would have said blue temp sensor as well. You could try tracing the wires for splits and checking to see the difference with the sensor plugged in and unplugged.

You could have a look for a vacuum leak as well. Check all the bungs and pipes for splits or cracks.
