Do people like them?
I saw an ED30 in the dealer's Monday and the seats don't look good IMO. Can you get them in pure leather on the ED30?
I'm just playing devil's advocate.
-
nope, as they are in the e30...
-
Personally i quite like them... keep well in the traditional Gti styleee
-
Hated the photos I had seen of the Ed30 seats and seriously considered not buying due to them, saw them in the flesh though and thought they looked 100 times better. Grown to love them now.
Kind of a love hate thing though I think IMO
-
I like them but how are they different from the standard car? Apart from the 1/2 leather of course.
-
Ed30 seats don't differ too much to the standard GTI ones. You simply get double red stitching, leather side bolsters, electric lumbar support adjustment and heated seats... on both driver and passenger sides.
I agree that they are a bit of a Marmite part of the cars' specification, but I for one get the whole evolution thing with the tartan style material and love it. I had full leather in my last MKV golf and prefer the material centre as it isn't as slippy, nor is it clammy in winter and burn your back hot in summer like the leather was. Having said that I would have preferred VW to go the full hog and given the ED30 half leather Recaro's
-
lol. I didnt like them at first. From the pictures I had seen. But then I realised the South African Polo comes with tartan seats and I began to love them
-
I bought an ED30 for the S3 engine , fiancee loved the seats , I wasnt sure at first.
But now after owning for a week! I think they really work to lighten the interior (esp on black car).
Given that the VW leather aint of the best quality, I also think its looks better than full leather which I saw on several demonstrators I tried (std GTI)
Personal choice , but I love them
First time for heated seats and they are
as Hurdy says 1/2 leather recaros would have been  , or even the ones out of the R32!

it's kind of a shame u can't specify not to have them or can u
just thinking aloud as i might do a swop over to get a better mpg as while i don't drive that far it's f-ing crazeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :embarassed:

Have you actually sat in the ED30 seats?
They are very comfortable and support your torso very well
Can't believe you are thinking of swapping from the R32 though. Why not PM Illyun as he has good experience of swapping between the two.

I still feel that a chipped Ed30 is faster than a R32

Oh it DEFINITELY will be. Mine as standard has been on the QTR mile and had 0-60 and 1/4 mile times faster than an R32...even in the wet
I'm still waiting to hear of times of someone in a tuned ED30 (DSG preferrably) down a 1/4 mile

fancy a change and fancy some change (in my pocket!!!!) :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:
-
but the cost to change is gonna be £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£ ?
Anyway I know I wanted the R32 but chose the ED30 for sensible reasons !
so yeah lifes too short , go for it  if you want.

Unless you go for a second hand ED30 I wouldn't have thought that you would get any cashback off trading in your R32 even though it has a high spec. :undecided:
Have you done any enquiries yet?
-
not yet no but the more i think about it the more i'm tempted to go for either ed30 or gti with a good spec
-
And dont forget to change your username to DannyBoyGTI
If you can get a Ed30 that would probably be perfect. Wouldnt going to a GTI be a bit er... Sluggish compared to the R32? Illyun?

I get the feeling i could do with a better specc'd car too, everytime i see a GTI with xenons it just like bursts my bubble that i dont have some  Not to fussed about the leather as the tartan thingi looks quite boy racer (not that i am) but maybe leather is for a bit more...mature people. Other things like the highline and multi function steering wheel too. Every time i see a golf with xenons, multifunction and highline the bubble goes pop....

I will swap it for my Ed30

I saw the full leather interior, and to be honest, I thought the standard ED30 seats looked nicer - probably more practical too.
And anyway, isn't the VW 'full leather' nothing of the kind? (Just part leather, part leather-effect). There are some great companies out there doing full leather upholstery for your car (to your exact spec) for much less than the VW leather option cost, so you could always leave the seats until you get the car, and if you don't like them after a while, then get the interior done out properly by one of these companies

If it were my money I was putting into a car then I would probably go get a Ed30... But its not so give me the R32 anyday!!! In my opinion its a better car.. (not faster) just better in its drive and basic spec I would say. I am tempted to by one next and get Mr HPA to have a quick look at it... only problem is, I have enough trouble keeping under the speed limit as it is!

You're in the same boat as me then...
