air leaks?? blue temp sensor?? isv??

Mine did it for a while, I tried a few things! If you aren't sure when it was changed, the blue temp sender is known to fail. I also cleaned up my ISV and connecting pipes remembering to do them all back up again  otherwise you'll have have vacuum probs aswell as stated above! also cleaned the Throttle Body out. try this link for other ideas and general maintenance http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17309.0
Seemed to cure most of it but every once in a while mine has a hunt for idle then is fine for another few weeks!
