Thanks for the link Hurdy... I voted for the Mk2 though :embarassed: The Mk5 GTI is a classic modern design though, however, I think the normal Mk5's look  In order of preference, my choice would be:
Mk2 GTI (big bumper only), Mk1 GTI (single headlight/ small rear lights), Mk5 GTI, Mk4, Mk1 GTI Campaign, Mk3 GTI, Mk5 non-GTI and the rest... and lastly Mk2 (small bumper)

What do i do

 you put the bloated Mk3 and Mk4 in front of the Mk2 small bumper!
used to own one and I loved it  youre just a big bumper snob

Done too - but i'm afraid i'm a turn-coat - its got to be the Mk2 16v 3 door big bumper bbs oak green jobbie for me! I'm not fussy!

done my duty: Voted for Mk5, though I do not like non-GTI MK5 (I don't like the shape of new R32 either)

Tell me why the Mk5 is besterest
As with most things it is an evolution and improvement of the original. The styling and attention to detail simply carry it off for me. The front looks more aggressive than the chrome of the R32, whilst the rear of the R32 looks awesome. The MKI looks a little too boxy from some angles. The MKII looks lovely and VW got it right. The MKIII for me didn't do enough to evolve the car overall and with the lacklustre engines and heavy chassis blunted the performance and damaged the integrity of the Icon. The MKIV styling is better and shows that VW were getting back on the right track. The build quality was spot on although yet again the suspension wasn't quite there and the 1.8T only got into it's stride in it's last year. Then the MKIV R32 came along and showed that VW were getting it right although the suspension proved a little too hard for some, the styling again was good. With the MKV VW showed that they had put more attention to detail back into the fun factor of driving and the GTI/R32 epitomise that. The quality isn't a step forward though, just a sideways step and a compromise against costs, which I believe will get worse with the MKVI when it finally turns up.
Please tell me if I'm wrong and again all this is IMO
