I'm trying to get my drivers side front wing off my GTI. i've undone all the screws (i think!) and its pretty much off but it seems to be sealed down the side next to the door. i've tried heating it up with a blowtorch in an attempt to melt the sealent but it just ended up setting my car on fire!! any advice guys?

I think patiently chipping away at it with a chisel is the way forward. They come with loads of sealant from new which is why they last so well. You may uncover a hidden bolt down that side near the bottom.
Hope this helps I am stuggling to remember exactly how the fasten

that really doesnt seem to be working! its starting to piss me off now.
why is it never as easy as haynes make out?!?!?
-
haynes lies

think there are two screws which will be hidden under the selant too
-
there is two bolts round where the sealer is once they are off its just a case of pulling the wing away then twisting it downwards and it makes its own line through the sealer (thats how i did mine )
use haynes a rough guide

any idea how i get to the bolts? i've looked at the location in the haynes manual but can't see them on the f'ing car!!

They will be buried under the sealent and there is 2 of them, they are a bit of a pig to find, there is also one right at the bottom by the sill if you havnt already got that one out, that one is sometimes covered in sealer as well

Just take off the sealant with a screwdriver to get to the bolts. It's easy enough. Wing will come off no bother then. Mine had about a centimetre of sealant on them, I worked out where they were by looking at the position of the screw holes on the wing i was putting on.

Use a hot air gun on the bolts to "dry" the sealent out, eventually the sealer will turn black, and come away easily
