Title: Any help wil be greatful...
Post by: Pugwash on 01 November 2007, 22:39
i am having a slight problem mith my 2.0l 8v GTI, it starts fine and will idle fine, but if i get straight in it, start it and srive off then in the first mile or so or until it is warm it will cut out at junctions when i put clutch in and it loses revs and just dies. go to start again and it starts fine, just when i put the clutch in to stop it stalls. this problem will only happen when it is cold but when it is warm it still drops revs below what it should but not enough to stall. i thought this may be down to an idle valve or sensor being blocked or faulty? as i have heard that the piping can become soot filled therefore restricting airflow?! has anyone else had the same problems and if so how do i go about fixing this problem?

Hi

First of all remove the breather pipes and clean/replace them. I had this prob and that solved it straight away. Mine had got clogged up and choked the engine on my old car.

Pipework to the ISV cleaned out first.
Fuel pump relay if that doesn't work.
ECU coolant temp sensor if that fails

only bosch injection cars have an isv...thats early 2e upto 93/94 8v's
for all cars these are the common faults
ecu relay
fuel pump relay
breathers
ecu temp sensor

hopefully one of these will sort it!!
