Hi there,
I have a cracked plastic seal on my driver's side window that i really want to get replaced (see picture below).
Basically, rust under the seal has caused it to lift upwards and crack, so i want to remove the seal, treat the rusted area and fit a new one.
So my questions are:
1. Is it possible to buy just the plastic trim part (since I don't think it is connected to the rubber) and if so does it have a name?
2. And if so is it easy enough to replace and how would I go about replacing it?
Thanks in advance,
Dave.

best bet i would think is the scrappers, ring round, find a mk2 then go and look if its on there, i couldnt tell you if you can buy it new, or even at all, but if it were me, scrappers would be first port of call.
also, the rust below, make a propepr job of it, dont want it coming back and doing the same again.

You can buy them trims new from vw still and they are about £12 a side +vat iirc

I went to my VW dealership and they told me that the part i need is no longer available and couldn't be ordered :( The guy then continued to break the plastic even more as he was playing around with it.

one side of mine has completly come off, and i was wandering if you could still buy these new. cant believe its discontuined

PM caddy vantastic and ask him to double check for you guys.

If you still can't get hold of one let me know as i have a couple spare, as long as they are for a 3 door with the one piece windows.
-
got a couple ehre to.. 5door, i think i do anyrate, but bens beaten me to it
-
Well mine are 3 door and yours 5 door, so he's sorted if no-where sells them!
-
those are actually made of metal and are 1 piece, the 'plastic' bit is actually the paint that has come away due to rust :) They pull off the door once you remove the seal & mirror (if its a front door)
Get down your local scrappies, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good one :)

I am still looking for one of these, does anyone have any available? Mk2, 1990 3DR 8 valve 82W (PB)
Thanks,
Dave.

i need a couple for a free door, drop me a pm if youd like to part with yours :) lol . must be a fairly commen thing i take it? shame the dealers stopped them but i guess its not viable for them to stock every part for every car.
-
If i had a name for the part, or even better a part number it would make life much easier.
-
as said the parts are deleted, but if you want the part numbers here you are:
191 853 283 - left front
191 853 284 - right front
193 853 763 B - left rear
193 853 764 B - right rear
The front ones have the same part number for 3 & 5 door but say 'adapt with workshop equipment' so I guess you have to chop em down!
