Title: What engine oil?? MK3 GTi 16v w/ 73k
Post by: ShoCk on 01 November 2007, 08:30
As the title really ...

What engine oil should I or would you recommend I use in my MK3 2.0 GTi 16v ... its at 73k miles and will be the FIRST service that has been done on the car since ive owned it.

Ive also bought Wynns Engine Flush & Petrol Additive both for under a tenner off ebay just for a piece of mind when the oil change is carried out.

Well, seeing as no one as replied I might aswell add something.

Not sure how relevant this is but my 2.0 8v uses 5w-40 (fully synthetic). For the price of a few quid more your better off gettting the fully synthetic 5w stuff over the 10w (not fully synthetic lol) which you can also use.

I use 10/40 valvolene semi.... not really worth using fully synthetic on an older engine unless its had it most its life!

Regards to the throttle body problem...

It is not motor powered. There is a sensor in there which detects the angle of the inlet 'flap'. If the signal is out of range it could be because of a broken sensor, a dirty sensor, or a clogged up throttle body which prevents the flap working within normal variants. The start angle should be 7 degrees. If the flap is not allowed to close to this 7 degrees then it will be signalling out of range. For it to actually throw up a fault code for it though i'd say it's the sensor knackered. For to be intermittent makes me believe even more that the sensor is broken. If you've been playing around adjusting the throttle cable  this could also cause this
