Title: Brake Fluid
Post by: 16vmk3ash on 10 March 2004, 22:25
I have just bought some Brembo discs and EBC green stuff pads all round for my 16valver which i am gona fit on sunday. Once i fit them i am gona renew the brake fluid but i cant find anything in my haynes manuel which states the brake fluid capacity!, anyone know?

Also i have changed brake fluid on a XR2 once but never on a car fitted with ABS, will it be any different? and do i tighten the bleed valve once the brake pedal has come back up or while it is still pressed down (its been 5yrs)?
Thanks

2 litres will do the brake fluid, probably will only need 1.5 litres.
Tighten the nipple when the pedal is down, or even better buy a pressure bleed kit from halfords.
Bleeding should be the same with ABS, but be extra careful not to let the reservoir empty.

Its like an extra reservoir that plugs into the reservoir on the car and the spare tyre.
Well worth 15 bar.

I bought one of those pressure bleed kits you were on about by gunson, should make things much easier. I havent had time to change the fluid yet though as i am having problems removing my caliper brackets (cant get the nuts undone).

While i was trying to remove the caliper mounting bracket i noticed that my new pads have a lead on them but my old ones dont. Do i unplug the lead that is pluged into the plate behind the disc and plug it into my new pad, or should i just cut it off?
