Title: starting problems

1.6 8v ok well basically it has never started frst pop but always does with bout 2nd or third turn of the key .i had a vtr back box on it and with it it seemed to start alot easier.i have now got a hks one on it and it jus trys to turn over and eventyally starts .

any ideas how to fix this the car is preigniting aswell running rich i know and problems starting how do i move on from this?

If its pinking, get your timing checked. Cars sometimes struggle to turn over if the ignition timing is too advanced.

You will need to check;

Your carb is set up properly and the cold start is functioning correctly
The electrical side is ok - ie. plugs, leads, dizzy, coil
Your engine timing

sounds like a mk2 carby, check my 2e2 carb faq :)
