i've just won a golf gti ( F reg digi ) on ebay and it has this problem
"The car runs fine without it connected but when the ECU is connected to the stabilising valve the car engine races."
he says without the isv connected it idles roughly til it warms up a bit but then is fine.
so is it likely to be the ISV or the ECU thats the problem?

i'd say ISV but it also sounds like its been bodged to make the best of a bad car. when you get it, do rubjonny's guide to tuning digifants and get it back to some sort of base tune.
p.s. are you turning into a golfbuyingpartselling whore? :P

cheers and yes.
you think the co's been adjusted to get it to run without the isv then?

Probably a good idea to take along and change the blue temp sender and then listen for the ISV when the ignition is on, may be worth taking a can of carb cleaner and a few tools to clean it up?? then limp it home and run through rubjonny's guide!!
Good luck

Sounds like a mix of throttle switch faulty or broken wires, co2 and idle's been played with
