Title: Mk4 - can someone tell me what this thing does?!

Hi on my Mk4 just above the rear view mirror is a small rectangle piece of plastic that folds back so its flat or you can pull it down. Its only about an inch or so long and cant really see any purpose for it but i'm just curious what its for  :huh:  Does anyone know?!

its to block the sun, like an extension of your visors

i've always thought of it as a centre sun blind, that what i use it for anyway.

oh ryt lol  :grin: i thought it could be something like that but im only 5' 2" so i guess i need to pump my seat up to get the full benefit! Thanks for the info though!

Its to prevent glare on your rear view mirror when you have the interior lamps on at night. It's also the access panel to the flux capacitor.

Wouldn't worry about that, unless you have some plutonium lying around to generate the 1.21 jiggawatts of electricity needed to operate it.

whilst we are asking what things are i have a similar question.  On my drivers side sun visor when i wlip it down there is the mirror and to the left of it a lind of vertical semi stretchy strap.  Any one know it official use?  I use it to store an emergency condom and the occasional chomp bar.

think its meant to hold maps etc but your uses are far better  :grin:

i'd probably say its for your documents eg licence, insurance.

People also use it to hold sunglasses (if you put the arms behind the flap)

I used to put my petrol recipets in there but now use the arm rest to store them.

on my brothers audi this "small mans sunblind" also covers the buttons that would operate an electric garage (should you be rich enough to have one) :sick:
