i have a mk2 1.8 gti 8valver, wondering is it literally plug and play to install a 2.0l 8v from a mk3 ?
other than getting the engine in is there anything i need? is the ecu/wireing different?

are the engine mounts the same ?
thanks

DO a search fella and all will be revealed. I'm wanting to do this to at somepoint and while it is an easy swap it's not as straight forward as it would first appear. For instance it's better to keep your 1.8 head (apparently the 2.0 head is rubbish) also the MKIII block is taller so I think you need to have a different manifold for the exhaust. Another thing is the dizzy as these are different on the MKIII to the MKII. And another thing! MKIII GTi engines will have most likely been thrashed so getting another 2.0 from thngs such as Audi 80's and passat estates are less likely to have had such a hard life.
Anyway have a nosey around the MKII section and you should be able to find all the info you need.

I'm not sure which engine codes are the best to be honest.

im running an agg block 1.8 head and a 2e dizzy quite straight forward after someone sorted me with dizzy info

We are just putting a 2e into my mates mk2 with pb head, its been fairly straight forward to build the engines up side by side, all we have to do now is wait for it to come back from the bodyshop so we can fit it in there and then see if it works
Once that ones out of the way im then putting a 2e into mine but in a slightly higher state of tune than my mates
