Hi Folks
Picked up my Mk5 silver 3dr 2005 GTI yesterday. Wow, absolutely love it. Coming from a Focus 1.6 Zetec, this is a total sea change. Love the low down torque and the smooth power.
I test drove the Seat Leon FR, Focus ST and Civic Type R. The Leon was nice. Didn't like the way you had to cane the civic to get the power down. I must admit, the ST was a great car. Faster than the Golf (not a massive difference) but I was not fussed on its looks or the fact that a blue badge would be staring at me. Quality of the interior was much better in the Golf. But the main deciding factor was fuel St's consumption. Absolutely horrendous!
One slight problem that happened tonight, the warning light in the rev counter to indicate a fault with the exaust system came on tonight. I rung the VW dealership and they said that if it stayed on constantly (as opposed to flashing) then it should be fine although they told me I can bring it in tomorrow and an engineer will look at it. Low and behold I am just back from the shops and the light is no longer on. I was going to bring it in tomorrow anyway.
Has anyone else had this problem.
Cheers

Had it looked at this morning by a vw engineer. The light was no longer on but I thought I should bring it in anyway. He ran a few checks and said everything was fine. Blamed it on possible moisture in the convertor because it had been sitting for a while

yes send it down the motorway and give it a clear out, if its been sat around, the emission lamda sensor is most problerly furred up inside the exhaust downpipe. That will do the trick, 10 mins of heavy right foot syndrome will sort her out.
