hi
I am pretty sure there is an amp already in my 2006 gti under the front passenger seat.
Has any one tried to fit a sub to the stock amp and head unit?
thanks

hummm, dont think they have seperate amps, thought it would just be in the head unit to run the speakers, best putting this question in the mk5 section! :undecided:

You could run a separate amp from the stock headunit to power a sub - you'd need an amp with high inputs, ie that will take speaker level connections.
You definitely won't run an aftermarket sub from the standard headunit.

I dont mean to contradict what you said Heyho. But dependant on what year the Mk5 is will depend on wether it even has an amplifier.
I think 2006 onwards has a built in amp. But look under the driver seat and if there is a stainless steel object there then look in the middle. There should be engraved on it that its a amp. If theres nothing there then there no amp.
I think if I remember correctly you can run a sub from that amp if its there. But not a powerful or killer sub

depending on the factory radio..u may b able to get hold of a VW lead to plug into one of the spare ports on the rear of the VW radio to give you sum phono pre-outs. but from that point on, it'l b like fitting an aftermarket sub n amp! But best to ask someone in the MK5 section as they may have tried this already and therefore can comment the pro's n con's of this method!?
