anyone use GUNK engine cleaner? its really good makes the engine look mint  also got the brake dust of my alloys
-
have a tin at home bought it after my last car Vectra diesel blew an oil pressure switch but never used it!! My engine could do with a good clean job for the weekend perhaps!!!
-
all the time, also use autoglym engine cleaner for other metals which gunk isnt as good on, and cilic bang is wicked too..
-
And the dirt is gone!

make sure you cover your electrics boys.

i tried cillit bang for engine cleaning, didnt do owt, got some floor cleaner from work (yellow alkaline stuff, proper strong) sprayed it all over, let it soak 5 mins and sprayed it off with a hose, good sh!t  so strong it foams up on ali, ace stuff
gotta be careful tho as more than 5 mins id imagine it'd start eating away at the paintwork lol :undecided:

theirs a few diff types of cilic bang, 1 of them does work, but as i said before i use Gunk, autoglym engine cleaner and WD40
use gunk brush on aswell as spray
another good one is Liquid sandpaper from B&Q, hard work but is good for certain things :)

Alloys are due for a refurb soon ( polised lip and anthracite centres  ) but with a quick lick of gunk they went from ...

Personaly I use Jizer, if I've a lot of thick crap to get off I mix it 50/50 with generic turps substitute to make it go a bit further. Great stuff. got a bunch of dish brushes and paint brushes from the £1 shop to help. Don't clean them when you're done just chuck them.
I recently did the wheels on my Impreza which had not seen a wash for over 4 months with Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner. Brought them up to new. Just don't use it on painted surfaces !!

great tip Slick - what do you suggest covering for those that might be slightly more novice?

Just get some plakky bags and use 2-3 inside each other for proper coverage. Then some laccy bands will hold them on well enough.
-
was gunna use some tin foil, but what do we need to cover?? come on slick
-
Just the usual electrics, i.e. on mk1-3 the dizzys, ignitions coils, etc. Mk4's well they are mostly plastic covered now, but if you want to be really anal about it, then the spark plugs, as i think the leads to them have coil packs on the leads themselves. The backs of the lights are always good ones to cover too.

Covering electrics in tin foil just before you spray water everywhere?! Hmm :undecided:
-
Mr Muscle on the wheels sounds good to me. Might abandon my plan to paint em black if they come up nice.
-
