right then my little ping pong tiddelies!
My lovely lady has a mk2 1.8 driver with set of ronal LS's on. Car is running standard original shocks and i have a few questions:
1) she needs some new tyres, currently running 195/45/15's. I'm sure these wheels are 7.5J so does that mean it should really have 205 tyres? They do have a bit of a stretch on em so i'm hoping if they're a bit wider it might protect em from those pesky kerbs that keep jumping out and biting the wheels!
2) The car needs lowering, but i dont wanna go to low. Whats the best solution to get it a bit lower? I dont want the ride to be to harsh as it's her daily driver and not silly low, i was thinking about 25 mm????

if it was me i'd stick with the tyres you have, or at most go 195/50/15. and 35-40mm drop is easy and comfortable enough to live with daily.
-
Agreed, I've wide wheels and a 40mm drop, you may have to roll the arches though, but that's not as scary as it sounds.
-
195/50 sounds like a good plan. She's not to fussed about flying round like a go kart just looking good  Gonna have a hunt about for some decent suspension now
-
Sure you dont just wanna sell me your wheel instead!!!! Beware some lowering kits I fitted -40 weitec which is comfortable as fook! but order front lowering spring caps at the same time as some kits leave your nose pointing skyward!
-
ha ha ha, nice try!!!! Couldnt sell em as they were a gift from a good mate!!! Which weitec kit did you get?
-
I had these alloys with 195x50x15 tyres & they rubbed like f**k on standard arches on -40mm suspension .
Wished id gone for 195x45x15 tyre option.
You have been warned !!!!!!

not escorts have some coilies on ebay if you have a quick search for them, not mega bux at the moment, but look ok.
as robiwill i think his username on here is.
he also has a thread in the parts for sale section...
if not, weitec all day long!

I used to run a set on my prevous gti 195/50's on 40mm springs only........no issues unless you put some lumpers in the back!!
-
Ive got these wheels fitted with 195/50. my car is lowered and only get problems with 2/3 people in the back
-
cheers for all the reply's guys! Does anyone know if there would be any point in fitting gti shox and springs? I'm thinking that that would only lower it about 20mm? I dont want it more than 30mm as its still gotta be practical for the missus
-
Weitec -40 mm dude but you need the front lowering caps or they do not sit right!!! -40 will be ok my mate runs -60 and that is his family duty motor!
-
k, i'll look into some prices!!!!!!

I had 195/50x15 with these wheels and my arches were trimmed. When it was lower and with Supersport coilies the tyres rubbed the arches and the front splitter scuffed the road in dips even though they were trimmed. Changed to Weitec coilies and G60 top mounts + 195/45x15 tyres and less bounce & scuffing and can go lower, but a bit less protection for the rims.
