On mk3 Golf's, I know I sound stupid, but is it on/near the manifold the same as it is on petrol cars, Iv'e never had a TD before. What I mean is, the car was advertised as a "turbo" but on the V5 all it says is "GOLF CL DIESEL"....does this mean its not a turbo diesel.
I phoned the ins company and they said that yes it came up as td so why is not on the log book??....I still have my doubts. Because if its not a td I WILL phone the guy back and try and get my money back, as it says in the ad turbo diesel.
-
The 14 that have looked at this, are probably saying good god if you dont know where the turbo should be tough sh1t. I did do a search before I asked but didnt find what I was looking for, hence asking....I usually search before asking.
-
Why is no one answering this, I know there are ppl with td's here....thats a nice start to a new forum, as in getting totaly ignored .....c'mon someone say something!
-
Probably because you have displayed yourself as an arse for getting the hump, just cos no-one replied.
However, the turbo if anything like my audi engine (which it will be) will be at the back of the engine next to the bulk head, after the manifold.

I'm asking a question because (as I said) Iv'e never had a Golf before never mind diesel, did a search and fcuk all came up......I ask this early this morn, and thought I'd have some answers by now thats all, smart pr1ck
-
and there again is your reason for a lack of answers. Congrats.

And have you (and others) here never had a car that you knew fcuk all about, thats the only way I knew how to write it. I didnt think It sounded daft, but you (and others) obviously do.
Just how clever ARE you s'posed to ask about things then...

before this gets out of control lets take a breather and all relax a touch..
first of.. stucbr - welcome to the site
now... I think the reason why your message may not have been answered initially is that the majority of mk3 owners on here have GTi's and not TDi's.... I was one of the people that looked at your post and didn't know the answer myself as I have no experience of them... and I didn't want to confuse you with a misleading reply.
it was also a lovely sunny day today... and people may have been out tinkering with their golf's or watching grand prix's etc.. instead of being stuck in front of a puter.
using a simple search term... "golf mk3 tdi" the first search result returned is this site
http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/archive/index.php/t-225.html (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/archive/index.php/t-225.html) which has lots of jabber on it about GL's and CL's and also mentions TDi engines... just with a skim read of this I gather that there are just the two variants with the same TDi engine.... although this might be wrong. But at least it is a start in the right direction.
good luck with your quest to find your missing turbo unit and I hope that your future experience isn't as traumatic for you as this one... patience is the key... the best things come to those who wait!

Thanks GTi.....if only you had said this before the above member replied the way they did, oh well. I honestly didnt realise that is was mostly GTi's, I thought it would quite a mixed bag, sorry :embarassed:
I'll check out your link and see whats what...again thanks for the help..
-
post your engine code and i will tell you exactly which engine you have...it will be on the sticker in the boot or service book...

I would have thought the site name http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk) would have given that away?!
there is bound to be someone along with the right knowledge at some point... stick around and I am sure that someone can help. might also be worth asking the same question in the 'engine' section?

see... told you someone would help... help was on the way even before I finished my reply!
-
ha ha. cos obviously i am wrong. Jesus.
-
never said that... don't look for conflict please... was trying to reassure a newbie that the site is welcoming.
I am sure that you were offering valid advice... just looking at the thread there was more falling out than anything else. none of us need that.
-
I'm not after any arguements mate, i'm just straight to the point, like it or not.
-
Thanks Bone & GTi...I didnt get any books with it , I saw the turbo behind the cyl head just at the manifold, for a 1.9 though, its quite small.
I'll get my engine code shortly, but what kind of power (hp) will this engine have?, bearing in mind its more/less a 2.0TD, thanks. Having said this, I'd better stick to the proper site from now on. I just thought although it was for GTi's (like I said previous) I thought too it would be a bit of everything, but maybe not though.

Stucbr - you stick around mate - you'll get more help here than anywhere else... you'll soon see that there are some very knowledgeable peeps around here.

Ok thanks, it was rather shaky start though wasnt it, and there was me just asking a question, oh well

Gosh, this is a touchy post isnt it... Anyway... the turbo charger is at the back near the bulk head on all MK3 golf afaik, like said before. If you look at your air box and follow the intake pipe back, it will lead you to the entry of the Turbo compressor, so you can see where it is.
If the air box leads directly into the manifold, which then leads to the engine block.. its NOT a turbo.
but the best way is to find the engine code... I would be able to find it and let you know the details then.
Its a perfectly acceptable question, they couldnt hide them better if they tried on some golfs LOL. Hope that helps
