I don't really follow Rugby and didn't like it at school... but unfortunately the football team are a bunch of underperforming, overpaid w8nkers who don't seem to wear the shirt with pride even though they may make the right noises about playing for the country... while this England Rugby side have shown how to play with the right attitude and commitment in a major sports tournament and despite losing today  I think have done themselves and England proud  And a grudging congratulations to the guest South Africans here - Micsta etc....
-
Agreed.... The england Rugby team done themselves proud i to hated it at school and odnt really follow it but i got into it 4 years ago (like most others) and have watched the last few games and despite to loosing to an EXCELLENT oponent today, they played well and never seemed to give up!!!
England football team watch and learn!!! And Lewis ake it at least 1 English victory this week!!!!!!
-
were you watching the same game as me?????? at what point did England play well apart from the break from Tait??? sure they defended well but all they did was kick and drive.
both sides were guilty of the same thing and it was a dire final but England had no flair or skill to break down the South Africans. they got 2 quick wingers but never gave the ball to them!!
This world cup has been a big let down; the group games were exciting but the knockout stages have been poor and lacked excitment
-
It was a try................
They didn't give up though, like the footbal team....

All our hopes now lie with the young Mr Hamilton.. do us proud lad!

Hang on a minute... weren't England written off as no-hopers at the start of the tournament and especially after that drubbing by South Africa. My point is that they did their best and gave their all but in the end South Africa were a class above them. I didn't have a sense of bitter disappointment that normally accompanies an England exit - usually via Penalties - in the FIFA World Cup, thinking that they could/should have got through. Instead I felt that this England Rugby team exited the world cup with their heads held high and integrity intact. I think this Rugby team gave it their best shot and to be honest, it was a suprise that they were in the final...
-
yeah they were and i'm not doubting their effort. both sides played poorly and it wasn't a great game to watch. i guess you can hold your heads high but at the end the day the lack of creativity was the downfall and i always thought South Africa could step things up a gear if needed to.
anyhoo i can't say too much as Wales went out to Fiji but even we scored more tries in the group stages then England did throughout the entire tournament!
Also i wouldn't want to be the TMO who gave that decision! i bet he won't be welcome anytime soon

Very English game of rugby. Two good teams but the best team won - SA were awesome throughout the tournament. Just too much for us on the day, but a gallant performance nevertheless

What a disaster for British Sport  Can't believe Hamilton's bad luck.... leader for most of this season and to be pipped to the post with the end in sight due to sheer misfortune has to really hurt.

What a shame. I did like what Hamilon's dad said about how they had had a good season and a brilliant time. Noe sour grapes at all.

DOH!!!

Thanks Illyun
I must admit. I watched the whole match (Never watched a rugby match in my life)
And I was rather dissapointed although we did win. The game reminded me of ping pong. Back and forth.
South Africa's defense was great and I must say that England def played hard. They wanted to win. But overall I guess the general feeling was that neither side actually played well.
Oh well. South Africa was crazy on Saturday night though. Was really entertaining driving home with everyone hooting and flashing and flags etc. Hopefully we will have the saem response to the 2010 soccer world cup.

Mike
You're welcome
Hopefully we will have the saem response to the 2010 soccer world cup.
Mike
Now now... don't let it get to your head..   you've got fat chance of winning the Footie World Cup - even less chance than England and they are playing really shyte at present
-
I was not talking about the response the actual game had aka the winning. Im talking about the spirit and how the country seemed united for 3 days before the match and how everything was cool.
Us Winning the Footie World Cup is like calling a Hummer eco friendly.... Its wrong :undecided:

Mike
did you say soccer!!  :embarassed:
-
Why not JoesGTI?
-
I can only asume they call it socer in SA. Nothing wrong with that.
Its football over here, I think Joes a bit bitter still :D
-
Oh lol.
Sorry Joe.
In South Africa its soccer and to be honest I thought that was a universal word.
-
Just seen photos of the President of South Africa holding the World Cup and being carried by the SA Rugby players... can't imagine Gordon Brown doing that... maybe they needed it more than us esp. since I have read also that it has united the country - albeit temporarily - papering over the social and historical faultlines that still exist there. I don't feel so bad now - I just hope England can do it next time - or maybe the time after? :undecided:
-
Next year England may win something

England footbal world cup??????

Andorra beating Russia?    don't think so
Israel who are capable of the odd surprise beating Russia? :undecided: Highly improbable
= England won't be there
hey but we can always look on the bright side - at least we won't go out on penalties again (to Germany/Portugal - take your pick) as we won't be there
-
I agree, But I hope that you are wrong..

I agree, But I hope that you are wrong..
So do I but I've had too many stressful stomach churning moments due to the footie team and I am getting really fed-up/frustrated... why can't they just gell together and show the world their class which I have NO DOUBT that they possess as individuals... I mean heck, even Greece managed to win Euro 2004 and only God knows how they managed that - maybe He helped them
