anyone old enough to remember or know? im looking for something sort of high end, a 90s jobbie with a cd player.. just for the period touch to go with my fischer CD holder
-
i still have my gorgeous Alpine tda 7638 (tape deck) and ultra small s604 changer from 94, cost me 1000 for those 2 items
they are both still mint and not getting sold ever
used to also love those old pioneers with the flip front and full size screen, before all the other manufactures started doing this, they were not motorised but were cool a hell, my mates all had them, they had a clear red on/off button on some of the better ones which we called the Cherry button  dont see many of these nowdays.

maybe its ebay time.. showing your age to kells

hahah i know i am
but i absolutly love oldskool head units, im a alpine guy, never had anything but alpine HU and their older ones are the best!!!!
i do have one of the modern ones these days tho as they do soooo much stuff which saves on other bits of wiring and components..
aside from Alpine, those old pioneers rock too
let me know how you get on and if you find anything
-
I'm sure the Alpine cdm-7837r headunit that i have from my Mum's old car must be over 10 years old.
-
old quality skool...... remember my mate had the finest Pioneer unit in '93. Cost crazy money. Rolled it in his beige Nova. Reprezentin i'm tellin' ya.

Beige.
Say no more.
Don't have any more info do you?
-
On the beige Nova or the Pioneer?
The stereo was amazing, first one I had ever seen with a motorised front panel. It looked a lot like that more recent 'classic' looking Pioneer with the brushed alu front.

How about a Becker? They look at home in any German dash, are understated and are amongst the best you can get for Sound quality.
-
got one of my oldskool HU in my hand now, the ALPINE TDA 7638...its still like brand new, what a wicked head unit!!!
They dont make them like they used to

what is the rest of your system?

That head unit was circa £1500 when new.
All the Sound off boys used it because the signal was so clean - gave fantastic signal to noise.
Downside is, there is no internal amplifier - pre-outs only. So, if you have an amplified system, go for that

im actually watching this hehehe, a classic
rest of my system in one car is all alpine DDDrive stuff, Alpine Ai Net changer in the Glove box but nothing mega rare tbh, just all quality Alpine Ai net stuff, and some of the original Rockford Punch Amps and subs (before rockford sold out and went all commercial)
in the mk 3 i have a recent CDA 9853 alpine HU, and at the moment Focal 6.5 in the doors, with a FOCAL sub in Focal box in the boot (£450 and the best sub iv ever heard)
Powered by a pheonix gold amp.
But putting my Rainbow components in the front i think, they retail at £400 so i really wanna know what they sound like..
i have a few oldskool Alpine head units tho in storage, from the 93-94 period..
the 909 in the link is a absolute CLASSIC and i love it
