theres me minding my own business awaiting the new car , then suddenly some web surfing turns up ...
boost gauge pod clicky (http://homepage.mac.com/risowu/OSIR/O-PODMONO.htm)
O-POD MONO
Vented single gauge pod for all MKV Golf and Jetta*

Simply plug & play
Fit 60mm & 52mm gauge (52mm step down ring included)

now Ive seen the AWE version (not available in RHD) and the various steering pod ones but this is just perfect
So where from in the UK?
Anyone else got one?
want RHD pod + the 52mm Defi Blue Racer gauge (blue lighting seems to match VW OEM best)
let the modding begin. :cool:

I like the Defi twin Gauges
Have a word with RedRobin he has bought a front spoiler & Carbon fibre bonnet from them. I don't know where he got them from though.
-
OSIR stuff can be bought through the TT shop I believe. Even if it isn't listed in the website they can get it as they are the official UK dealer.

....That's right - TTshop in Bedford 01234 853 225, ask for Justin or David (the boss) and say Robin (red Mk5 GTI) sent you. They are sole European distributors for OSIR. Riso always puts his stuff up on his OSIR site well before he's able to supply, so it'll take time. His carbon stuff is top quality - He's produced for the RGTI project for example. I've just had an OSIR double skin carbon bonnet fitted - Perhaps I should start a new thread here with pics.

PICS, PICS, PICS

Thanks everyone for the feedback , I will send off an email and report back.
The twin gauge pod under the air con looks cool too.
But I was put off by a) the location having to look down while 'pushing on' and b) 2 gauges when I really only need one, esp as the other gauges I would want , EGR temp etc are more diff to plumb in. dont see the point in a very expensive voltmeter
And yes RedRobin I blame you fully for posting on another forum about said cf bonnet which got me on the OSIR website in the first place
For me at this stage and my fussy nature the OSIR pod is perfect.
JohnO
-
i quite like the idea of the one that goes under the aircon, but can you still use the 12v. any pics/links?
-
Steve,
The OSIR site is framed , so Im posting the direct URL.
For the full site you need to go in through the main page.
hope direct linking is ok!
voila......
Oil Temp (or EGR) and Turbo are the two I would get.
The big plus is that those particluar gauges are totally black faced when off which is
says ashtray is still acessible , so does that mean lighter too then? dunno cos I aint had the car delivered yet lol
Golf Mk5 Interior linky (http://homepage.mac.com/risowu/OSIR/GTI_INTERIOR.htm)
Pod under air con full linky (http://homepage.mac.com/risowu/OSIR/O-Pod.htm)
cough possible group buy anyone?

....Well done and styled as below the aircon is, I still think you want to be able to see the boost gauge at higher level so your peripheral vision isn't lost.
-
Neat gauges
Cass
-
hum, i think u can get to the ashtray for little things, i.e paper. but dont think your going to get a powerplug thing in there,.... needs testing lol
-

Gotta agree , unless the gauge has playback (now theres a thought lol) , the whole point is being able to see peripherally a temporary boost spike , or unusual behaviour. You tend not to read a gauge , but 'know' the general type and scale of sweeping it does.
If this changes , then somethings amiss.
for me a boost gauge is to
a) establish normal behaviour for the car
b) see the changes when its modded
c) check for the infamous boost valve failures/leaks!

....I couldn't agree more
I'm beginning to wish I already had one of these as I got a splutter-splutter very short hiccup loss of power when accelerating hard for an overtake the other day. Could be coilpack but a boost guage would have possibly told me something. Off to my Revo man on Tuesday.

Defi-Link Control Unit II

Red Robin does your contact sell these?

Red Robin does your contact sell these?
....Yes, they are the only UK sellers - TTshop 01234 853 225 Justin/Dave. Most of OSIR's carbon is imported to order.
-
dude dont get the inserts by the gear stick or radio, looks chav
-
Yeah when i had a look i thought it was getting a bit too much but each to their own i guess!
-
carbon gages look sweet!! get paid at the end of the month so will be interested to see waht i can find
-
The Air Conditioning gauge looks sweet but not to sure about the rest of it...
-
awaiting a response from thettshop , but in the meantime I found the
52mm Defi Blue Racer Gauge for £77 link
(http://shop.edoperformance.co.uk/defi-blue-racer-boost-gauge-p-3427.html)
the 60mm DEFI BF gauges with the blue tint are even nicer but you then need the control unit.
I plan to stick with the 52mm above which is standalone.

a pic that just confirms I WANT ONE
-
Two problems...here we tend to use air conditioning quite a bit as it gets abit too hot and aswell....460km to a tank that full? :S not to sure if mine get to 420 km on a full tank?
-
looks great, but i dont wanna lose the vent. lol
-
i like the OSIR but think the blue colour doesnt match the OEM dash colour, the AWE does seem to tick the boxes, keeps the use of the vent and colour is near as OEM with out infringing on VW's cool blue Colour.

-
Thanks K4ith ,
I agree there are certainly elements of the AWE kit I like but supply seems an issue at the moment. (see GroupBuy mkv forum)
I like the way you keep vent control , does it fit RHD cars though ?
Accuracy and response of gauge may not be ideal (but then is that really an issue?)
True it is a better match and the way the Defi guage lights up may annoy me
I think both are excellent options , for now I have ordered from ttshop.
They couldnt be more helpful , 40 quid for OPOD MONO RHD and 140 for Defi BR 52mm guage (no link unit reqd)
should arrive in around 2-4 weeks
I will fit it and see how I get on.
I'm pretty fussy so if I dont like it , then it gets replaced lol
the only issue is actually attacking my new car to plumb in the gauge

this is the bit that concerns me, is it a dash of job, how does the feed pipe get to the engine bay? looks a bit of a job to me, and finding someone with the skills to do it would be hard too.
-
[Resurrected thread as its now arrived ]
theTTshop = superb , no hassle , ordered and (as expected) it arrives sometime later.
Re :Plumbing
shouldnt be an issue just time consuming , as the Defi stuff has nice detachable connectors.
Feed pipe run is short to boost sensor then its electrical to the guage (i.e the tube doesnt run all the way to guage)
I certainly dont expect the dash to need removal lol
Just need to consider where to get
A live feed + earth + lights on feed , I may also get an additional kit from forge which doesnt use the t piece in the defi kit
http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0016&product=FMBGFK
nice but pricey
So a few pics
1st pic was my last tank of fuel (ignore that as pic is for my blog)
2nd pic is the stuff that came , note the OSIR 52mm adaptor on the gauge
3rd pic is guage without the plastic bit on the outside , which I like better than 4th pic
4th pic is guage without the plastic bit on the outside
5th pic is guage in the pod supplied by DEFI which is actually very discreet
(http://www.johnoldfield.dsl.pipex.com/images/weblog/ed30_1500miles_boost_guage_arrives.jpg)
will add more once I start putting it in.
Any suggestions on wheres easiest for power + lights pickups?
JohnO
-
you can power and lights from the light adjuster next to the light switch and then you can adjust the brightness all at the same time.
-
resurrected as its now fitted !
Running on switched 12V feed only
Running in permanent 'night illumination mode' as my preference
removed outer plastic needle position indicator to leave polished edge , looks better imho
All power taken from free position in fusebox behind RHD panel in door shut.
Running today in the sunlight and guage was perfectly readable even in night mode.
Response is supreme.
Ok ultimately its not a match for OE VW dials , but I love it , and pref it to cheaper guages.
Heres how it looks day + night
(http://www.johnoldfield.dsl.pipex.com/images/weblog/defi_blue_racer_day_night_pic.jpg)
-
Looks great
Did you link into the binnacle control so that you can control the light intensity or is the backlighting always that strength?
-
thanks Hurdy
always that strength , suits me and it also means I have not spliced into any OE wires just in case I get a warranty problem.....
-
Does the vent still work behind it or is it disconnected?
-
when you pull out the vent it all comes out incl the extension piece inside
So vent is effectively open all the time , can still feel air coming out holes , but some escapes into dash as theres no longer an extension piece to channel it to the vent.
I dont find it an issue , but if you commonly use that vent , or have the A/C on specifically that setting (to centre vents only) then it may bother you!
-
Cheers dude. It looks awesome
I've been looking at the Opod and Defi Link but the price is putting me off. May give this setup a try and fabricate something to keep the vent behind it in place.
-
There are some blue and red gauges on this site which might be of use to you guys :undecided:
http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/Search.asp?types=yes&type=Mk4+Golf
-
thanks
in fact they do a lovely OE style gauge holder that keeps the vent function.
http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/ShowDetails.asp?id=190 (http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/ShowDetails.asp?id=190)
I may change to this later , but £80 is just too steep, makes it look much more OE though which is a huge +
-
That looks mint, think I can see my next mod

....Now that is near perfect!
But £80 plus a Defi gauge = £Â£Ã‚£

Nice but a pity the housing isn't angled towards the driver like the OSIR one - if it was - perfecto

Seen that but it isn't angled towards the driver like the OSIR one. Reasonable starting price though.

a s/h vent to work on , a hole cutting tool and some tubing and poss some plastic welding and i reckon you could easily make a bespoke angled version.
Might take more than one attempt though
that ebay is +£8 p+p so its not much better value!
