Title: Rubbing down

when rubbing down spoilers and boot plinths ready for spraying is it best to rub it down so its totally smooth or do i 'key' it so the paint holds?

A good "keying" should do the job.
I'll be doing the same thing shortly with my new boot/grille spoiler and support.  :cool:

I did a little bit of rattle can spraying the other week and I keyed the surface with wet and dry, then anti-rust primer (which fills all the scratches), then very fine wet and dry, then top coat.

Worked a treat.

I usually try high-build primer for the minor scratches and imperfections.
