My car is just coming up to the magic 1.000 mile mark and I have a problem with a crunchy second gear.
It only does it from cold and only when you change from 1st to 2nd.
Drive 5 miles down the road and all is silky smooth.
Anybody else had this?
-
not on my e30, just normal every gear any time..
-
Certainly not normal no.
-
Straight back to the dealer - sounds like a dodgy 2nd syncromesh or something equally horrible. Don't wait, get it checked/fixed now.

I just hate taking the car to the dealers, it always comes away with something that wasn't there before.
I guess this is serious and warrants being looked at, especially if nobody else has encountered a similar problem.

Its normal on a high mileage and probably thrashed 17 year old Mk2 Golf GTI

Booked in for tomorrow,
They did say those magic words "you can leave the car here over night Sir"
Not something that I am happy with doingbut will have to see.
-
mine does the same but only when its cold - I wouldnt worry about it.
-
new cars should NOT crunch in ANY gears!! hot or cold!
my mk3 cab used to do it but only in reverse and with 80,000 miles on it!
-
Took it in yesterday, low behold the technician could not find a fault with it.
He did however loosen the gear linkage to see if that would make any difference.
Driving to work this morning it was exactly the same,
Have booked it in again for an overnight stay Thursday night for testing from cold on Friday morning.
Cant say that im to happy with leaving my car with them overnight but I will read them the riot act before handing my keys over.
Nice to know that someone else is experiencing the same thing.
VW have told me that it shouldn't be crunching, just hope that they can sort it out wiithout pulling the car to bits.

Is this manual or DSG?
-
Its a manual,
-
Its a manual,
sure you dipping your clutch all the way in? :undecided:
-
Yes, I have made sure that it hits the stop at maximum travel,
-
Picked the car up to day after the stealers checked it overnight.
They have told me that they cannot find a fault, they have driven other GTI's to compare it with and the gear change is exactly the same on all of them.
They have told me to monitor it and if it gets worse bring it in.
-
Take it back next week and tell them it has got worse - even if it hasn't and I bet they find something  I did the same with my ECU controller for the DSG in my last car and lo and behold they found the fault after the second attempt :nerd:
